Do you count calories?
« on: May 30, 2016, 07:48:58 pm »
I've lost weight in the past and I want to make sure that I stay the same size, so I usually count calories and watch the scale so that I don't gain weight.

No I don't count calories. Never have. I just try to eat right for health reasons, which is what I've been doing (with the exception of this weekend) for the past two weeks. Lost five or six pounds without trying. I don't plan on losing anymore, just maintaining my current weight.

No not yet because I'm pretty young and I have a good metabolism.  I'm more just trying to watch what I eat in general!

No, I don't count calories. When I see that I've put on weight, I really try to eat more fruit and vegetables and less sweets.

Nope. Never cared about calories... my body burns them up as quick as i can eat them!

I do, but I don't go full throttle with restriction because I exercise every day for 30-60 minutes, I'm slender, and I eat relatively well aside from as much chocolate as I can get my hands on!  ;) I'd like not to be in the habit of counting them but it's hard to break out of it once you've started--for me, anyway.

I don't, but maybe I should, to make sure I get enough. I've very underweight, and my arms are like toothpicks, but I don't know how to gain any weight. I have a lot of trouble just keeping what I've got.

Not really... Although I do check out the health labels of foods at the store, and given a choice between 2 products all other things being the same, I'd go with the one that has fewer calories. But caloric intake is only one thing to consider with weight-gain. Exercise is also very important for losing weight and keeping it off; not only does in burn those calories but it also increases muscle mass which in turn increases a person's metabolism (allowing them to burn calories even when not exercising at that exact moment). Also, focusing purely on the number of calories that a food has also neglects to take into account of its nutritional value. Even though oranges have a high calorie amount (compared to its mass), I still like to eat fresh oranges because the value of those calories is better; you get more nutrients per calorie from eating an orange than eating plain popcorn. Instead of counting calories, I'd rather try to cook at home and make healthy eating choices.

I don't count calories, because I am not that fat and if I don't eat I feel weak.

Not anymore. I lost about 40 pounds last year and have managed to keep it off, but I've stopped counting calories. Slashing calories those first few months, excuse the TMI, made me lose my cycle. So I'm just trying to eat more, but still keeping it mostly healthy.
