Do people watch this show? What's it about? What's so appealing about it?

Yes I do :) I didnt up until last year, a friend of mine online talks about it all the time so I gave it a try. And binged watched all the seasons, now I watch it on tv

Ive always been interested in the time setting, its not something for the squeamish as there is some blood involved, torture and also there is some nudity scenes

Its not for everyone

I saw the first two episodes and then quickly lost interest. I might give it a shot again. It's funny since I love this genre as well.

I think part of the appeal is how well George RR Martin wrote the books that the series is based off of. The books are very gritty and realistic. Since the chapters were written in the point of view of a different character in each chapter, the characters become very well rounded. And the world itself is harsh yet fair; none of the characters are "safe" (in the first book / season, one of the main characters gets killed off, and pretty unexpectedly). The world does have magic, but it is a much more subtle force. As such most of the conflicts are solved using more real-world tactics of intrigue, negotiations, and all-out war. The book series had already garnered a solid fan base before HBO took up the project of turning it into a TV series, so when it came out there were already people wanting to see the books come to life. And HBO for their part did an excellent job of doing so. I thought their casting choices were pretty spot-on, and the special effects make the fantasy elements look completely real.

I've read the books.   They are very good & detailed.

I've seen the series, not this last season one.   The HBO series doesn't necessarily follow the books, but it is the basic gist.  The character in the HBO are sort of hard to follow if you haven't read the books, he is VERY detailed in the writings.    It is somewhat obvious how it is going to end... but at least how it is being speculated to end.

The series is going faster than George Martin can write.... he is so slow  lol
