Do you have a great rent or mortgage history?

Right now I have a mortgage, but I hope to sell my house soon and move into an apartment.  I'm too old to have to take care of maintenance on a house.

I live in a 2200 sq. ft. split level with 4 bdrms. and 3 baths and pay $650 a month on my mortgage. How much is your rent?

I am renting now, and I've been for a while. I'm not sure where I want to live forever, so i'm just getting my credit in good standing for the time that I will be ready.

I'm paying a mortgage. Hopefully I'll get this place paid off soon.

Old Buddy at it again!  ;) ;)

What I've found is that there is a lack of education in this area which is why you get some of the answers you get here. Not to mention there a couple schools of thought...

There's the nonsense that Dave Ramsey and Suze Orman puts out in regards to mortgages and then there are capitalists who are able to take their equity and create multiple income streams and/or use it to pay off debt.

So, it all depends on what your philosophy is... :-\

I myself live in a 5 bedroom home with a mortgage in California and my payments are nearly over 3x what Old Buddy pays... :o

My goal is to not pay it off, but eventually move into a bigger home with more land...in California. I'm getting there
s-l-o-w-l-y but surely.

Your income is directly related to your philosophy, NOT the economy. - Jim Rohn

I'd caution making a false equivalence in regards to capitalists and mortgages. One can rent and still create multiple income streams using their equity. There's much more to a rent/buy discussion than the monthly payment amount.

have a mortgage its  875.00 just refinanced a 3bd 2 bath. Now my son is looking to buy a house at  400,000 or more probably more.He and his wife work but will be paying 3000.00 a month  ofcource this is Cal where the hoses are expensive. Buying is better should save money for a down. We got money from my husbands 401k had to pay a 10% penalty but that was the only way we could do it.

There sure aren't too many places that size for rent that would be under $650 a month! Not too many mortgages that are less than that either. You have a great deal.

i am lucky. We  paid a large down payment on our house and my mortgage payment is only $241.16 a month. And i am paying another $150.00 on the principle  which lowers the  interest   a little each month.  I think i have about  6 years left on it.  So of course  t it is a lot less then paying rent. Of course i have utlities to pay which isn't all that much.
