Hello lo snuggleycutejc and everyone else out there in Fusion Cash World:
I love to write. And, in fact, used to make up stories as a kid when I was growing up. And, later on in elementary school continued the process of writing stories, just for fun!
And, I continued writing in college , as well.
Anyways, enough on me,........Ok, here are some suggestions to motivate your children to write and to stop complaining that writing is boring!
1. Give your children a sketchbook and encourage them to sketch a picture of any subject matter and the picture does not need to be perfect.
2. Once they are done, call each of your children up to yourself, individually, and ask them one by one, for example, "Tell me Johnny.......what is happening in your picture?"
Give them time to respond. Do not put words into their mouths. Encourage them to talk about their picture.
If they do not answer you right away, you can say, for example, "Johnny, what's this purple color over here.....what is it?" "What's going on?" "Can you tell me?"
And, let them respond, Johnny might say, "Oh, that's my purple imaginary cat named Shasha!" or whatever.
And, then you say, "Oh I see. Ok,......and tell me Johnny, what is Sasha, your purple cat doing?" And then, of course, let Johnny tell you what Sasha, the purple cat is doing or what ever!
3. And, as Johnny, your son, tells you about Sasha , the purple cat, listen to him, and take down notes about his purple cat and take dictation about his purple cat as he is telling you the story about his feline.
4, And, then, of course, thank Johnny for his fabulous story about Sasha, the purple cat, and then tell him, "PK Johnny, I want you to sit right here by me and now write out the story by copying down the story.....that you shared with me that I wrote out for you in your own words!
5. And, encourage Johnny, your son, to write down his own story in his own words after he has shared it with you.
And, even if he doesn't write out the story perfectly.......still encourage him on his creativity...........and follow up with his story about "Sasha, the purple cat," (as in this example) with a spelling lesson.
6. For example, you might have Johnny, your son, read out loud and write down the words, included in the story such as
A. There once was a purple cat named Sasha. And, all the other cats used to make fun of her for always wearing purple and then one day........"state the problem" for instance, Sasha lost her purple collar... and her owners couldn't find her........and then even the neighborhood cats didn't recognize her....... and tried chasing her out of her own neighborhood!"
B. And, now ask Johnny.........."Tell me Johnny.......how did Sasha solve her problem about the missing purple collar?" And what did her owners do to find her?"
9. And let Johnny, your son tell you the story
10. And, (forget the spelling lesson) allow Johnny to write down the story and to use "inventive spelling" where he sounds out the words........for example, Johnny might write, "Onze ther was a cat etc.......(the idea of allowing your son to write out hsi story without correcting his spelling is to get your son to trust himself that he can accomplish a task such as "storytelling" and to build up his confidence in himself...and, of course, to enjoy the writing process.!
All children go through the stage of "Autonomy and trust vs. shame and doubt" so as a parent, you need to encourage Johnny, your son, to get his ideas down on paper.
So, for now, at least, allow him to do that without making corrections on his paper because, after all, this is his project and (no disrespect) it's not yours.or any else's for that matter.
Now, if let's say you want to improve Johnny's spelling...........then that would have to be planned as a separate lesson plan.
And, I would highly recommend that you and your wife google "Montessor teaching" you tube videos to watch and to learn how the Montessori certified teachers teach their students, how to both read and to write.
Finally, writing is a process and it takes time to master it.......and one must always put their best food forward on this topic, and, of course, encourage others along the way to do the same!
I hope that this has helped you out.
Talk to you soon. Bye for now!
