Currency tracking
« on: April 08, 2016, 07:16:34 am »
Is anyone here a member of or ever heard of the web site WheresGeorge?

It is a web site that tracks the natural flow paper currency as it circulates through the country (and beyond).  To some it might seem like a waste of time, but it really is an interesting idea.  You enter the bill denomination, series year, and serial number on the site and if someone else receives that bill and enters it later down the road, you are notified of the "hit" time and location and often a brief note (optional) from the person who found the bill.  Many of the bills entered never get hit again, so it doe snot give a complete history of the bill forever into eternity, but it is interesting to see on the bills that DO get hit what far off places they have traveled to after leaving your wallet.

I stay fairly active logging in most of my paper money there.  They have a member forum, which is where I was first turned on to the idea of earning money online with surveys and PTC; so I thought it appropriate to mention the site HERE in a forum where I make money online!

I've heard of this but have not tried it. Sounds very interesting though and I'm going to check it out.

It is fun to keep track.  Some of the heavy users over there play different varieties of bingo - at least one hit in all 50 states or one hit in every single county of a particular state.  It takes a heavy user and a LOT of time (years) to achieve a bingo.

Just a word of warning, it can take MONTHS before getting a hit, which may lead children (or even many adults) to lose interest.  Most hits are only achieved if you write or stamp the website on the bill.  Seeing the site address written on the bill margin is what actually prompts people unfamiliar with the site to check.

Sounds like fun. But seems like a lot of time spend doing this. Probably not worth my time.

I didn't know you had to be a member.  I have entered serial numbers before.  It is kind of interesting to see where the money has been.  And that is assuming people are telling the truth.  lol

Technically, I don't think you have to be  a member to enter a marked bill that you find, but I don't think it will track your bills entered (to YOU) unless you are a member.  Not 100% sure on how that works...
