whats a 28 year old to do in the world
« on: April 03, 2016, 03:21:45 pm »
what is a grown man, with nothing, including very limited job experience, no drivers licence, no car, no money, no nothing to do out in the real world. Where is a good place to start?

I figure that since I lost my birth certificate and GED that that is a good place to begin. get my hands on new ones of those, and go from there. I fear that i will be stuck in minimum wage jobs for the rest of my life, and I will live paycheck to paycheck forever. never getting ahead in life.

I know that most reading this also have money trouble, i mean you are here earning a little extra. A place to live should be my first priority. I can't get far living with my parents, or on the street. Its going to be a rough road. Where would you wise and experinced people start?

I wish we could meet in person and talk.  I was a Workforce Counselor at one time and worked with many people regarding goals.

To be short and sweet, you'll never get anywhere unless you set a goal (take baby steps at first), decide what steps will get you there (be very specific and break it down), and lastly, put a time frame on everything.  Start with a week.  What goal are you going to reach this week?  Find out where and how to get a copy of your birth certificate?  Find out what it's going to take to get your GED?  A Social Security card is very important.  Maybe you need to find out what you need to get one.

One thing at a time.  You definitely need to make up your mind that you need some kind of skill/education and that you will talk with people who have those kind of jobs and what schools teach that skill.  Talk to financial aide advisors as well as academic.  That's probably enough for now.

Oh, also sit down with your parents, friends, relatives, mentors and tell them what you want to try to do.  Ask them for ideas.  Don't be hesitant about asking for help as long as you are willing to do your part. Think, read, talk to people, jot down ideas and information.  Then make a decision and an action plan!

I'm 28 year old women. I don't have a license, vehicle, permit. I've babysat, worked as a virtual assistant, freelancer, freelance writing but for some reason I don't fee that is enough experience. I went to college and graduated with an associates in business administration. I struggle right now because I don't have a way back and forth at a job without a vehicle or license. I'm trying to focus on getting my permit right now and possibly a work at home job that pays hourly.

One step at a time is a good idea. I used to feel very overwhelmed until I started setting goals and reaching them slowly. At the beginning of 2016 I sat down and wrote down goals including financial small goals such as getting my contacts for my eye health because I've been wearing back up glasses and I need a new prescription.

Anyway, I've been studying for my permit and I feel that is one of the best things for me right now. Today I studied for 15 minutes. I know it wasn't much, but it was something which is better than nothing. I am continuously studying at small steps.

Positive thoughts your way!

Start by making setting some short and long term goals; you may want to put some timeframes on them that way it will help you to stay focus and on track. Getting your GED would perhaps be a good place to start as a short term goal and then build from what you want to do once you receive it. Keep your head up and try and surround yourself with positive rather then negative people. Wishing you much success!!!

First you should contact Social Security in your state and ask how to obtain a birth certificate (or google to see). Next step would be to work on the GED and get a job. Figure out what you would like to do and look for a job in that field, or try to get your foot in a door of a company that you may like. Sometimes we have to do jobs that we don't like, but try to meet people who can help you advanced. Join a Meet Up group or church or some organization and stay with people who will encourage you.

Just stay positive and focused on your goals and stay away from those who don't support you!

Do you have a job now?  If you don't already have one that should be your first priority.  Changing your negative attitude would be a start as well.  If you think low of yourself and your chances that's all you're going to get.  Junk in junk out.

You can easily get another birth certificate.  To get a start go to a community college to determine what it is that really you and go from there.  Or do your surfing online about a community college.  I am also sure you can get another copy of your GED.  Even if you have to work for a low paying job, it is a start and go from there.  Also don't assume people on FC is not working, usually it's just to have a few more dollars in the pocket

More advice that I would give you is to surround yourself with positive people who have some kind of goals, even if they are not yours.  Some communities and families are very negative and without any kind of motivation.  Don't spend all your time around those people.  Go where people are positive and doing something.  Go to libraries, schools, museums, gyms, YMCA/YWCA's, churches, political or social groups working to make change, volunteer.  Volunteering can often provide experience towards a job.  Just don't surround yourself with negativity and bad examples.  Decide what and who you want to be...then work towards it.  Yes, it will take work and time.  But most of all, just don't do nuttin'!!!!!!

definitely a good idea to take baby steps and not burn yourself out fast. I got a couple months to gather some money i should figure out what to do after that. I've studied the entire driving book just not for awhile. It seems a lot more confusing then it probably is.

well i did earn my ged, but i lost the physical copy. so that would only take one day to go get another copy. what you mentioned about surrounding myself with positive people and not negative is spot on. it really does make a huge difference.

good advice, but i dont this SS has anything to do with birth certificate. pretty sure thats town hall or something. i'll figure it out. last time i needed to do that i went through a charitable organization cuz i didn't have a dime to my name. not sure what they did to get it tho.

Just stay positive and focused on your goals and stay away from those who don't support you!

who said i had a negative attitude? I have a realistic attitude. Been there before. thinking something doesnt magically make it so. I'm as positive as i can possibly be considering all the circumstances. and what a terrible piece of advice to worry about a job above all else. yah let me just sleep in a ditch, wake up, shower in a mud puddle then head on into work. junk advise, junk life. been in a similar situation before. was looking for real advise, not self esteem crap. i'm not down on myself, i know what i have and dont have and its all facts.

i never made such an assumption. I said that people on here are not that well off with money and also struggling, and for most it is true. If one was well off and set they wouldnt be diddling around on here for pennies. you didnt really say anything. you repeated what I said and threw in a bit about college. If i could afford that I would. Not like id be given a grant
