Free movie...
« on: March 15, 2016, 07:57:16 am »
I live in Orange county NY and the only cable company that i can get here is Time Warner. I pay a good penny for cable and internet service and feel that TW takes advantage of being the only available cable company here. What ever happened to not having one company controlling an area so that they could mess with their prices when they want to? I believe that they are using this whole "going digital" thing to add on more to our bills. My bill just went up another $10 or so for that reason. Heres where the free movie topic comes in, for the past 3 months i've received an email from them stating that they apologize for the interruption of service (which i'm not sure actually happened on my end) and offered me a free on demand movie. Now that i see that they jacked up my bill i'm wondering if they were just "buttering me up" for the end game of a price raise. Only other alternative is a dish network and who knows what price game they play down the line. Totally frustrating!

I turned off my cable several years ago.  We have more than one company as an option but they still were raising their prices every month and then there was nothing on.  Got tired of it and told them to shove it.

cable is a ripoff no matter how you look at it.

We cancelled our cable (also Time Warner) several months ago.  You would be surprised how many channels you can actually get with the new kind of antenna!  We also have Amazon Fire Stick, Netflix, and Hulu.  We can watch about anything with all that.  Never have missed the cable!

WE have also cancelled our cable service.  We have Netflix and Hulu.  I don't know what the Amazon Fire Stick is.    We have an Amazon Prime account so we can get free movies with that, I think.  I actually don't watch much tv so my husband knows better about the details.
I just appreciate one less bill...the cable one!

there are some websites that offer free movies online.
Potlucker is one.
youtube allows some movies.
some websites offer free TV reruns on a collection of various video websites. [vidbull, dailymotion and others]
I searched for "last man standing" and I could watch the shows [reruns].
When "Cedar Cove" series was running, I could get the show online the day afterwards.

Cable is certainly a ripoff, especially here in NY where there is no competition. We don't have any TV service, so we just watch a lot of DVDs. Which is fine with me, because I like the classic shows like Combat! and Rawhide much better than the new ones.

We only had one cable company here for a long time but now are starting to get some other options.

We recently had to switch to digital cable because  they're discounting analog at the end of the month.  I got to enjoy all the new channels we're now paying an extra $20 a month for a week then my box has worked for the past two weeks. The rest of the boxes in the house still work but I would like to watch tv in my bedroom. They actually sent someone out that did the same things I did( unplugging cables and power) and asked if I had called the number on the screen.  It still doesn't work and they better put that credit on the bill that they promised.

We are stuck with Comcast. If my dad did not want it, I would cancel it in a minute.

We're stuck with Charter.  Other than Dish and Direct tv it's our only option.  I have to admit, I hate paying for it but hubby and I are tv nuts.  We love our television.  The only good thing about Charter is when there is a problem and if we complain enough they will give us a credit and believe me, when there is an issue, we complain and keep complaining until they fix it.  Looked into Dish and Direct but didn't care for their packages.

I haven't had cable for a couple of years and don't miss it a bit. I have an antenna, Roku box, Netflix and get more shows and movies than I can watch.

There's only one cable company here and it's Comcast. I only have high speed internet service from them. I used to have cable tv service from them but I cancelled it. As a cord cutter, I suggest you get yourself an antenna and a streaming media device like the Roku or Amazon Fire TV. There are a lot of programs on these apps you can watch on these devices for a very low price or for free, especially, the PBS programs. I'd avoid Dish Network or Directv unless you want to subscribe to Sling TV, which is owned by Dish Network which is aimed at cord cutters.
