OK... So you win the lottery.... say $5M
« on: August 25, 2009, 01:10:24 pm »
Who do you tell?

Do you quit your job?

Do you pretend like nothing happened... perhaps quietly pay off the mortgage and the car(s) and spend a little here and there?

Worse... if you do tell friends how to you handle it if they starting asking for $$$$???

(deep thoughts for financial dreams)

I'm almost 5 months pregnant so I don't work. My boyfriend and I have talked about the lottery before and we would keep It quiet. If my brother found out he'd expect to be given as much cash as he decided. We'd pay off bills and buy a house.

I would probably keep it a secret, put it away in the bank.
Store some money for my kids.
Tell my family members only split the money between my immediate family only.
A person has no use for $5 million.

I guess I should chime in and answer my own questions eh... ?

I'd keep it a secret...
completely and totally...
some parts of it would be hard to keep secret....

like the step kids not being eligible for financial aid in college...

I have a list of friends whom I'd help out a little... but then again... i help plenty of them already...  (little things that make all the difference sometimes...  I loan out cars when they need one and one of mine's doing nothing... same with air conditioners... for the season... tools (hopefully for less than)  I've even privately financed a few car loans... (nothing huge mine you... but when i had an extra 2k and a friend needed a car so he and his wife could both get to work...  I bought the car... he paid me back...)

I'd keep that up...  perhaps even expand it a little...

I'd probably buy a car for the local cancer society volunteers to drive people to and from treatments who don't have transportation...

I know I'd do everything I legally could to keep every penny outa the Governments hands... they don't respect what they have... (I pay my taxes...cause I believe is pulling my weight... but the fraud and abuse in government is beyond reason...)

I'd also probably make an excuse to take my step son who's in the marines and his buddies for a party cruise someplace... just for the heck of it.... (and then have to remember to *bleep* about paying off the bill for the next few years... but hey.... ;)

it's the stuff that dreams are made of....

oh... and i'd setup a trust fund designed to insure the money never falls into individual hands of my kids or family... leave it for them to spend as a group on community projects and stuff....

My husband, son, and I live with my mom in a mobile home that constantly has something breaking, on a small piece of dirt in a cruddy community. We had to move here after my husband got laid off and I got sick. We are very thankful to have a roof over our heads and food in our stomachs, but I can tell you a lot would change if we became millionaires. Just so you have the point of view from which I'm writing this....

If I were to win the lottery (fat chance since I don't actually play the lottery) then I would definitely keep it a secret to avoid hurt feelings from people who may believe they deserve money just for knowing us. I would first tithe right off the top (lots of people in worse positions then myself), then pay off all of my old medical bills and lock a chunk of the money into the guaranteed education tuition program in my state for my sons college education (we have an established acct already, but I'd love to put more into it). I would then purchase my dream home ($375,000 4,000 square foot home on 2 acres not far from me.) This house we are currently in we would pay off and fix up so that we could rent it to a low income family that doesn't have the income to rent a home, but needs the space because they have a large family.

Our new home would have enough space for the three of us, plus my mom, and my aunt, we would also adopt a sibling group that is currently in foster care but needs a forever family. The acre that the house is not located on would be one giant pea patch divided up for families in my area that don't have space for a garden, or can't afford vegetables. We would purchase all the seeds needed, and till the ground. We would also purchase a bus and pick them up from a designated spot 4 days a week to come out and work the land. We would not ask for anything in return for ourselves, we would just ask that 10% of the veggies that they grow be donated to meals on wheels or the food bank for people who are not able to come grow food themselves. I don't even care if they decided to sell some of the food they grow because that too will be giving them a hand up.

Yup, that's been my dream for some time. Thanks for letting me share it with you.   :)

We'd give some money to my half siblings, and my husband's mom and brother too, but that wasn't part of my overall dream of helping others, so I didn't include all of that.

   :wave:After sharing it with family, and friends, I would buy a few apartment houses, and house the homeless. I would even buy them anything they need, like furniture, food , clothes.. yes, that's what I'd do with the money.

I would keep it on the Down Low untill Someone found out.  Then I would have to deal with family that wants money.  People who does come around will because of the money.  I would buy a house in a different state.  Buy a better car.  Then the rest would be put in a bank.  Spend some here and there.

I would Buy myself a nice house and get a bunch of fruit plants on the land. I would buy a new van because the one we have sucks. I would also pay off all my student loans and put money away for my kid college fund. I would also take a nice vacation. I would love to be able to go over to germany. I would just put the rest of the money away and live comfortably. I would also keep it quiet. I would also get married!

Well of course my husband would be first then our children.
I do not think I could quit being a full time mommy!!!
Hmmm honestly, No. If we won that kind of money we would move, and build our dream home.
Well considering our faces, names would be plasterd on newspapers, I do not think us not telling our friends would work. But no I would not loan money out. I was raised not asking others for money. Now a bank is different. But I think its rude to ask others for money. I was taught although some may have more money then others, you do not get by in life sponging of others. If anything you ask if they have any tips for finacial settings.

Aw I would love to win 5 million. I would pretty much Tell my husband and mother in law and my best friend cause no one else would really be getting anything. I am a stay at home mom so i wouldn't quit my job but my husband would quit his not forever but to find a better one. as for pretending nothing happened no way!!! I would have a new house and a new car for me and my husband and plenty of other stuff :o 8) I would only tell my friends i won who i plan to give some anyway and keep everyone else in the dark instead of the money ruining friendships.
