I know I'm not eating right.  I eat whatever I want whenever I want.  Fortunately, the Lord has given me a metabolism that doesn't allow the extra ice cream or snickers bar to hang around the waist area.
Have a wonderful day!

I could be eating better but for the most part I try to make healthier choices. I guess it's a good thing I actually like water, fruits and vegetables more than juice, rice and a lot of meat

To me, eating "right" would be eating organic, non-GMO foods.

There's too many pesticides/toxic chemicals left behind on what is supposed to be healthy fruits & vegetables.  GMO foods aren't healthy for animals or humans.

Since I'm now a type 2 diabetic, I pretty well kept my sugars in line without following a strict diet until my last surgery. Now I can't get them lower than 174, but more often, they are around 200. So, I decided to try the Atkins diet since it's low in carbs. The only problem I'll have with it is the snack times. I barely eat breakfast, let alone 2 snacks a day. I need to lose at least 25 lb. anyway.

My problem is I absolutely love the "3 P's (pasta, pizza, and potatoes). To give them up will really kill me. But I refuse to give up my chocolate ice cream at night. It's the only thing that puts me to sleep. Otherwise, I'm awake all night. :(

I went to the produce store today and got asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, mixed greens, and Romaine. (good thing I also love veggies). i only spent $12, too. So I'll having steak salad, taco salad, roasted broccoli and cauliflower with some kind of meat, etc.

I am in a similar boat to sfreeman. My father and myself were both diagnosed with prediabetes last summer and had to meet with a nutritionist to discuss our diets. It was difficult enough for me to find out that my diet for the past (at the time) 18 years would have to be radically changed if I wanted to avoid a Type 2 diagnosis, I can only imagine how my dad felt!

Needless to say, I haven't been doing very well...my diet is almost entirely carbs, especially pasta and bread! I am even supposed to heed to a restriction on how much milk I drink a day, but milk is 99% of what I drink!

I am a bad example.  :-[

Years ago I started limiting saturated fat in my diet.  Since that time I have learned so much more about nutrition, and healthy alternatives.  My husband was just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and we have drastically changed our diets.  It's an adventure to find new substitutes for old foods that we love.  If you cook sliced radishes in a little butter, they make a great substitute for potatoes. I couldn't believe how good they tasted, and I never even thought about cooking radishes before. You can also make an incredibly good faux potato salad using cauliflower.  I'm not doing as well with finding alternative desserts.  I don't like using sugar substitutes, but monk fruit seem to be a good choice.  You can make a pretty tasty bread/pancake using coconut flour and egg as the main ingredients.  Experimenting is fun!

I know when I'm not eating right. I use to eat a lot of carbs and eat a lot of sugar on daily basis. My weight reflected this lifestyle. :(

I've changed the way that I eat over the last few months. I've cut down on my carbs and sugar intake A LOT! I'm eating more vegetables as well.

You can only deceive yourself for so long. Your mirror and your scale are the reality checks that you need to tell you if you're eating right. :o

I usually can tell if I am eating right by having blood work done every time I go to the internist for a checkup every 6 months or so. The results usually tell you if you have too much or too little of minerals and vitamins in your blood and you can adjust your eating accordingly.
