Hondas or Toyotas will last a long time.  I drove a Toyota camry for 12 years.  I have a Honda Civic now.  I bought it new.
Have a wonderful day!

I would say save up and when the time is right buy a used car that is worth it. There is no right or wrong way to know except ask your mechanic if he could check on cars that you are test driving just to make sure you don't suffer more in the near future before you buy it.

chevy malibu? i drive a 02 with 50k mileage, got it for 18k mileage at the time. needs new exhaust. mechanic told me would cost 1200 tops. In your case, I would save the money and repair. try taking public transit temporarily.

Nissans are good cars in my opinion. They can go forever.

Hondas, Subarus, Toyota's and Chevy's are good choices.
