Well they do it like that where I am I know.  I can't stand Walmart.  Never go anymore.  I need a toilet seat lol and I imagine I will end up going there over the next week but I really dread it.  I don't go unless I have to - I am disabled and you couldn't get any help there for love or money and if you do you have to wait all day.  At least they have electric carts otherwise I would just go to lowes for the toilet seat.

One person at the start of this chat mentioned that they seem to be discontinuing favorite products.

I will try to find a regular item I get, and more and more often, takes a while.  I have to go to pharmacy to ask them to page me help....usually they aren't happy about doing that, to find an employee to check if more of the product in back....often not any more in stock.

Can't tell you how often they say more coming in that night, come tomorrow...I can't just come back tomorrow. When I go maybe the following week, they are out already.

Yeah, I heard they are closing a lot of them also.

I don't want to lose them, love the prices, but they drive me nuts....  :)

In all fairness, I have met a couple very nice employees there, but many seem annoyed when I ask for help.

Had a dear friend who worked there for years, and she was treated so unkindly. She is a lovely and helpful person, and should never have been treated that way.

I'm afraid they all do it but at least in my area they have the "do it yourself" registers which makes it a whole lot better!

I have a friend who worked there for many years. I think they have really down-sized their help. Soooo hard to find someone to help often.

I have learned to use the automatic check-out, and use that more and more often. There are usually a few free when I go through.

Places like Walmart will never lose too many customers, even when help is hard to find. Folks in my income bracket need Walmart, for the prices.

 :rose:

We do not have self check-out.

Walmart is awful. I keep telling myself to stop going there and start going to Target.

Thing is there is no where else to shop in my town other than Walmart.  We do not have a Target.  Or anything else.

I never shop at Walmart.   It is so far away from me in my area.
I agree they can increase the price by 1 cent and hire a few more workers.

They do not have to increase the prices.  They can afford to hire more workers.  Or just let the workers they have get more than 10 hours a week.

I haven't quite seen that many registers, but yeah, usually not all of them are open...

I heard Walmart is closing quite a bit of stores across the USA ... :/

They are only closing the little neighborhood markets that they opened up every where.  Not the Supercenters.

I just hate it when people just block paths and you have no choice but to go around or ask them to move.

And I hate it when people just act stupid.  When I am shopping I am looking at the shelves and if I am blocking someone's view they can either say excuse me or wait until I am finished.  The same with if I am standing in the store and they want to walk in the exact spot I am standing in.  Walk around me or wait.

Unfortunately, I've been to a few Walmarts in different states and they all seem to operate that way.  It's absolutely ridiculous.  Something else I've noticed, the cashiers at the Walmart in my hometown don't even greet you.

I am not excusing their behavior but just curious as to if you have worked in customer service?  I have worked as a cashier before.  I always tried to be nice to people but some people are just @ssholes.  You can only take so much abuse from customers.  And don't say well get another job.  It's not that easy to find a job right now.

Whenever I use the self check I usually get an error message and still end up having to wait for customer service.  It'll say something like not all items are in the bag or something like that.

yes but they just installed self checkouts which help this problem

We have a grocery store that has self check out.  I walk up and hit the begin button and almost always get the "please wait for an attendant".  It is not worth the hassle.

I guess it can depend on which Walmart you go to; location can be key. Like I sometimes go to one in western Connecticut and it's not too bad of a experience. Then I go to one back in my homestate of NY and it's screaming babies and screaming adults, people ignoring you, crowded. But I go to Walmart only rarely as they're not too local.

My biggest issue is the lack of cashiers open.  I have a friend who has left his full buggy sitting there several times.  It is also aggravating when you can't find anyone in the department if you need help.  But most times if you do find someone you are just as well to have not found them.

And I can understand the frustration of the employees who are working understaffed and being constantly yelled at by angry customers.

I think this must be a trend in all Wal-Marts.  Every time I go to Wal-Mart there are more closed registers than open registers.

My local Wal-Mart operates similarly to that of the original poster. As operates 24 hours, I tend to do my grocery shopping early in the morning on weekends. Sometimes one register is open. Other times, it is not, and I have to resort to using the self-checkout aisle.
