Laptop computer batteries
« on: January 20, 2016, 05:13:39 am »
Why is it this when I use my lap top without being plugged in
that the battery does not last. Are there any options I can try, I like to use my  laptop around the house.

I very seldom use my laptop without it being plugged in.  The battery life just doesn't last.  My laptop is about 9 years old now.
Have a wonderful day!

You may need a new battery if it's not holding a charge. My battery lasted about 2 hours off the charger when I first got it and now a few years later it may last 30 minutes. It was a cheap laptop so I'll just wait until I get another computer instead of purchasing a new battery

Most people don't charge their rechargeable batteries properly in order to have them last longer (and this is for any rechargeable device like laptops, cell phones, etc.)... The main reason is that people keep their devices plugged in after the battery has been fully charged. Often when this happens, the battery starts to overheat causing it to deteriorate over time, such that the battery won't last as long as when it was new. The best way to have your battery last the longest is to only charge it when needed, and to unplug the device as soon as the battery is fully charged. Since people tend to have their phones unplugged during the day (or when they're awake), they tend to be a little better than laptops with which more people tend to keep plugged in whether the laptop is used or not. And even though I know this, I am also an offender of overcharging my devices... I now have to keep my work laptop plugged in constantly as the battery will only hold a charge for 15 minutes or so.

When I first purchased my Asus Computer the battery used to last about 4 hours between charges. It also charged pretty quickly. Over the last couple of years I have tried to be pretty good about unplugging my laptop as soon as it is charged, but even so, I now only have about an hour unplugged before I have to charge it again. This is bothersome because if I am in the middle of something important, I have to keep one eye on the battery power to make sure my laptop doesn't suddenly switch off. Invariably I end up plugging in just to avoid losing all my information. Needs must!

No matter what brand of laptop you get, the batteries don't last long. Using it while unplugged helps it last a little longer, but it seems to be 2 years tops. It's a scam I tell ya. Replacements are difficult to get plus expensive. Mine's been dead since a year after I got it.

It all depends on how old your battery is. The older the battery the less time it holds a charge.

Your battery gets depleted if you always have it plugged in and have the battery attached. It's best to use one or the other...not both. You can find good replacement batters on eBay and Amazon. (Just make sure the battery is the right kind).

With all that I do with my laptop I don't unplug it all that often. I'll let the battery discharge a little but if I'm using it then it stays plugged in. If it's not in use and unplugged then that's the only time it doesn't go down real quick.

The only option I know is "remove the battery". Plug in all the time. If there is no electric outlet, then use your computer with the battery inserted. Never use both at the same time: Inserted battery and plug in...because it will drain your battery.
