I would send her a message and say how bad you felt, but you are having another party at a restaurant on the other side of town and you want her to come as the guest of honor, then just forget it.

Tell her you are having a party for her and tell her she is the guest of honor and then just forget it?  Are you saying to call her and tell her there is a party when there isn't so she shows up and looks stupid?  That is mean.

Yes that is mean, but I bet she won't bother you any more.

You had absolutely no obligation to invite that gal.....she needs to get over it and maybe throw a surprise party for her dear friend herself!

Hi Nancy,
You did fine.  I would have done the same thing you did.  How are you doing?

If you were paying the tab, it was your decision on who to invite.

Wow! Who on earth expects to be invited to a party? The key word here is, "invited". That means you get to invite who you want, and they may or may not accept. I wondered if you have spoken to your sister about this person. Your sister might be able to shed some light on this person's behavior and attitude and might be able to put your mind at rest. I think my general response would have been "I am sorry, the party was just for close friends and family". Presumably she's bright enough to put 2 and 2 together!

No you didn't.  She's not a good friend anyway so who cares about her antics.

Nancy, how did your sister feel that you didnt invite her? Were the other 25 co-workers much closer to your sister then her?You did say she sent you a well wish RE your health...right?

Even if you knew she wasnt coming to avoid this maybe discernment to cover your butt might have been in order to invite her.

If you had a bag of popcorn and were eating it in front of a good friend and another was there that wasnt as close to you,you wouldnt offfer it to just the good friend right? Her feelings were obviously hurt.Maybe she shouldnt have carried on either and i dont think you meant harm as well.

We all can be so sensitive at times and i think to look ahead and realize something like this could happen you cover your butt.If you over-looked it again she shouldnt carry on either.A polite and truthful explanation never hurts!

It was your party and it was up to you to decide who to invite and you really don't have to take crap like that from anyone anyway.

You, of course, did nothing wrong. The other party has some deep-rooted issues or was having a very bad day. Don't let her steal your joy. Forgive her and try and forget about it.

You could send her a note apologizing and remember to invite her next time since you did think about inviting her in the first place. I wouldn't actually talk to her about it again on the phone. That would probably get you another earful.  :-[

Your call; but don't let it eat you up.
