Will you have enough retirement savings?
« on: January 02, 2016, 11:36:38 am »
There have been numerous surveys regarding the amount of retirement savings different generations have.  Most state that many people will not have enough to continue their standard of living.  I know that I am finding it hard.  What do you think about your situation?

Well, I know that I would not have enough. If I save what they want me to save I would have to live on today.

Well, despite having numerous student loans and a sizeable credit card balance, I attempt to ensure that I contribute some money to my Roth IRA retirement account. I have been at my current job for 5 years, but did not establish the account until about two years ago. But better to establish it now than 10-15 years down the line.

Well I know I most likely will not have enough, but as soon as I finish school this year and actually start working in the medial field (I'm 31) I will start putting some back and hopefully have enough by the time I'm retired.

My parents had a lot of money saved for retirement, but so many unexpected things happened and it nearly wiped them out. You can never have enough insurance and money in savings.

I am probably going to have to work until I am dead!  But if I can squirrel away some of this Fusion Cash money, I might be able to work something out before then...

No.  I don't have a retirement account.  I'll just have to trust in the Lord to get me through the golden years.
Have a wonderful day!

If I would have listened to all the pundits, I would have shot myself when I retired. The real truth is, all that talk is to sell more insurance and or coax more money into banks. As long as I have half a brain and the Internet, I will be fine. I say that after doing great for 15 years with very little insurance or savings and no 401K or any kind of pension plan other than Social Security.

I am currently retired.  I don't have a lot of money, but I have enough to pay my bills and have a little left over.

I have been focusing on loading up my wife's retirement plan which should be more than enough to let us retire without too much financial strain. I have been putting money into a retirement account but not nearly as much. We have also been donating more to charities which should take some of our taxable burden away.  Our kids will be done with college in five and a half years and we are aiming to pay their student loans which means that, most likely, we will be working until we die. I never like to look at inheritances because I want everyone (to whom I would be a benefactor) to live a long, healthy and happy life. My kids are named in a few wills and there will probably be money in our accounts when we pass on.

We have worked hard to build up retirement savings so we don't have to rely on anyone else.  And we live frugally...except for handbags. I buy too many nice handbags.

That's not something I would try to predict.

Living on a budget and getting ALL debt paid off NOW (and staying debt-free) I think are two of the best steps to take toward planning for retirement.

Over-spending, wasting money on unnecessary things,  having to pay interest on loans & credit cards....all things that could be robbing your retirement fund.
