What does dirty santa mean to you? It is a game played where I work.

LOL no! So I thought it was a basically where naughty gifts were exchanged, but as it turns out it is about stealing gifts from others during the exchange.

My daughter has talked about doing this with her husband's family but I think they called it a White Elephant party (??).  I haven't heard it called Dirty Santa, though.

This is how I played it before, everybody that's playing brings a gift, you start with a number, when the first number's drawn that person pick's a random gift, but open's it, the next person after get's to either pick a gift or take the gift that was drawn before them, if a person's gift is taken they get to re-pick or take a gift, if they take a gift that person gets the same re-pick or take a gift, this continues until somebody just re-picks. if that person re-picks, they play the next number drawn, the game continues until everybody that played gets a gift. it's a fun game, but you might not get what you want or like, that's the "Dirty" part of this game!

We did this kind of gift exchange for years when our families still gathered together for Christmas.  We never called it "Dirty Santa" though.....just the gift exchange.

We got nice gifts, not white elephant/gag gifts.  We may not have gotten exactly what we wanted, but we always had fun.
