repairs from water damage
« on: December 11, 2015, 06:10:55 am »
In a friend's apartment building, there was a water leak.
Her living room carpet got wet.
The landlord had the carpet removed and said he cleaned up as best he could.
My friend has a concern for the presence of mold.

My fiance and son works for A restoration company, (clean up for water, mold, bio, anything damage to ones home) google restoration companies in your area......if the guy has insurance on the home then they wouldn't pay anything.....

This is such a frustrating problem for tenants.  I'm one of them.  We have mold in our apartment from years of repeat water damage in all areas of the building.  ie: ceiling, floor walls etc.... To get rid of mold properly so it doesn't come back does indeed require professionals.  Sometimes that may require construction contractors.  An expense most landlords would rather avoid.... so they do.  It's costly for tenants and mold spores do cause allergies...but to have the mold tested is usually at the tenants expense... and in the end is the landlord going to fix the problem?  Probably not.  Many again such as myself revert to plan B. Start saving $$$ and look for a better living premise ASAP.

Mold is really nothing to mess around with...google images-it can be darn right gruesome. I used to live in Wisconsin and was always congested. I had to have a dehumidifier running a large percentage of the day in order to keep the moisture level down. I now live in Colorado where the climate is more arid/dry and have no problems with breathing or need for a dehumidifier. My wife did, however leave the garden hose turned on next to our previous house which put about two inches of water in the basement. We called our insurance company and they had a repair team tear out (and replace) the basement carpeting as well as about eighteen inches of drywall. Insurance companies would rather proactively stop mold from growing in a house and having to pay hevier remediation bills in the future.
