Is Hanging Upside Down a Health Hazard?
« on: October 12, 2015, 11:38:33 am »
I just thought about an episode of Pee-Wee's Playhouse which was called "Fun, Fun, Fun." When Pee-Wee obtained the secret word from Conky, Pee-Wee held the word upside down and thought it was "NO." The word was actually "ON." On in capital letters reads "NO" upside down, so Pee-Wee decided to scream really loud upside down when anybody said "No." He tried doing that after getting the Chandelier to say the secret word for that episode, but Pee-Wee thought again and decided screaming upside down was not a good idea because it made him dizzy. I personally did not feel comfortable screaming upside down either. It made me feel somewhat sick. I even thought the camera screen itself looked odd when flipped upside down.

Do you know of any studies that show hanging upside down too much would chronically (or permanently) hurt somebody? It's like when I seriously thought swallowing gum could cause stomach cancer.

I believe that it has been medically proven that hanging upside down is actually good for you. It has been reported that it can relieve back pain, improve circulation and combat stress.

Screaming upside down is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I'm sure it would make you dizzy.
Duh.  ::)

I'm not sure you posted this as a joke or not, but I always had my doubts about Pee Wee.

So NOT a health hazard. No. Now I'm having doubts about you too.

I have seen gadgets that let you hang upside down.  Supposedly good for you.  As for me - I would have a headache :o

Hmm I dunno, I wonder tho, it makes all the blood rush to your head, or so my mother always told me, what if a person had high blood pressure, which I do, I would think that would do something

Great question! Too bad we dont have a doctor here to tell us

My cousin has severe back pain that is somewhat relieved by an inversion table. She gets on it, it goes upside down and then it uses gravity to get her back upright. I don't think they're cheap, though.

However, you might find a chiropractor or massage therapist who has one and would allow you to use it for therapy. Just a thought.

It would really depend on the health of your body. Naturally the gravity would increase blood flow to your upper body. I could imagine it would make a person unconscious if done for too long.

Yes, because your body is sending almost all the blood to your brain.
