Danger and Law Enforcement

Do you think it is becoming more and more dangerous to be a law enforcement officer?

i would have to say yes but also no they need to stop the people who are not cops to stop giving them the right to carry guns but they have everyday threats that are out there but they trained to handle it

Definitely Janice.We are living in some very dangerous times and i think to become an upholder of the law you have to have excellent discernment how to handle delicate situations.

Sadly many law enforcers are as bad as some criminals and dont do their job correct.When a new breed stops shaving their heads,having muscles and NOT wearing tatoos maybe that might be a sign some wanna do their job correct!

I am not saying all law officers are bad,but i do know a little leaven ferments the whole batch!

I would say yes.  I am so glad no one I love is in law enforcement.  To be so scared sitting and praying they walk through the door after their shift and you don't get the phone call that changes your life.  I know there are bad cops, but all I can say is thank you for putting your life on the line for us everyday.

Yes I do think it is becoming more and more dangerous to become a Law Enforcement Officer. I think crime is what it is, and always will be, but the role of the Law Enforcement Officer has changed over the decades. Our attitudes towards human rights and our opinions on discrimination have changed over the years. To all tense and purposes we have clipped the wings of the police officer yet we still expect them to fly properly. Don't get me wrong, I realize there are a few bad apples, like there is in any industry but on the whole, they have a very difficult job.

I believe most are going to agree this is a yes.   I wish they were trained more appropriately in how to defuse sticky situations.  I believe many tragic situations would be helped with better training.

I don't think it is no more dangerous for the Police than it is for the citizens of any given state.  So many Police persons have gotten away with actually getting away with killing people and they walk away unscathed.

I think it is dangerous for them as well as citizens, everyone seems to be out of control right now.

Laughable. Police officers job is to interact with people who break the law. Obviously, they are going to be in more dangerous situations than your average citizen.

Sure it's a dangerous job. Any more so than the past? I don't know about that. Interaction with cops has proven dangerous for minorities as well though.

When they catch the cop killers, who have guns, for the most part they are illegal weapons.  A lot of people have guns legally and they commit no crimes.    Besides as they say, the guns don't commit the crimes the people do.  They need to enforce the gun laws on the books before they add any more.

I think it is becoming more and more dangerous to live in this world.  It doesn't matter what your job is or where you go.  People are just evil in general.  I work with the pubic and it amazes me and how quickly a person can go from the sweetest in the world to the angriest b*tch that walked the face of the Earth.  The split second something doesn't go exactly their way they show their true self.

If the citizens do not have guns then the cops do not need guns either.  If you fear guns and do not want to own a gun then that is fine.  Don't own a gun.  But do not try to stop law abiding citizens from owning a gun and being able to protect themselves.

It has nothing to do with training.  You cannot train someone to deal with a crazy physco.  Like I said in a previous post the nicest person in the world can go to the most evil b*tch physco in .02 nana seconds.  The split second things do not go their way.  You do not know what people are thinking or what they will do.

Exactly.  Thus the reason so many have lost respect for law enforcement.  Even law abiding citizens.  A local officer in the town I grew up in posted a rant on facebook about how "people needed to respect him" blah blah blah...

I am thinking YOU need to do something to earn that respect.   For the most part the cops do not respect the people they deal with.  And it is not always a criminal.  I read a story about a cop that walked into a man's home and shot him, the home owner, because he THOUGHT he was at a home invasion.  The door was unlocked so he assumed the first person he saw broke in.  Turns out the cop was at the wrong house.  The person who called 911 was just a passerby walking his dog and thought it was suspicious that a man knocked on the door and stepped out into the yard to wait for the door to be opened.  The police responded to the wrong house, and their was not anything to respond to anyway.  Anonymous calls to 911 such as this one do not need to be taken seriously.

As for the home owner who was shot, I would sue for millions.  The cop - he needs to be fired.  If his response is to answer a call and shoot the first person he sees then obviously he cannot handle the job.
