icloud - help please
« on: August 21, 2015, 09:18:35 am »
Just curious as to if anyone uses icloud?  I have a 6 gig iphone and over 2 gig is used up by apple software and I have not updated since ios 5 because I do not have room.  It will take over a gig to update to 6.

Anyway, I deleted several apps.  The ones I still have on the phone I really need.  I am not sure how the cloud works.  I am not wild about my info being there but as I am other people's contacts I guess it already is.   :o

If anyone uses icloud and can give me some more info, is it safe, have you had any issues with it, stuff like that.

Also what do you do download app from the cloud and use it and then shove it back into the cloud?  I have googled but do not seem to get the answers I am looking for.

Overall I am unhappy with Apple and will probably go with something different with my next update of my phone but I am in a contract for 6 more months.  And I don't really know anything about other i type phones.

I had problem with the cloud too. But my problem was with the computer. I was trying to print something from my computer and I couldn't. I had many trials; finally I got it. There are too many steps to make it work.

All I want to know is how it works?  My phone is COMPLETELY FULL.  I cannot afford several hundred dollars to purchase another phone.  If all I can do is store pictures then it really won't do me any good.  I can take the pictures off the phone myself.  I am wanting to know if I can move apps back and forth between my phone and the "cloud".  And if that IS how it works how hard is it to move the apps back and forth?

The first thing you should check on your phone are unnecessary text messages with attachments. People tend to forget that it takes up lots of space. Starting cleaning that up by getting rid of the clutter. The cloud will store your apps if you used it to save your updates to it. Personally, I would save everything on the computer. It helps if the backup is on your computer in case you need to re-install something.

I delete text messages every day.  I don't accept any attachments.  If it is a picture I either save it and get it off my phone or delete it.  There is no "clutter" on my phone.  I also regularly delete the cashe (sp) of websites visited.  I don't accept cookies.  I try to backup to my computer from time to time.  I had about decided the "cloud" thing is not for me.  I have deleted several apps but the ones still there are ones I use daily.  Thanks for your help though.  So basically, it's the same as backing up on my computer but it's on "their servers".  So it is not what I was thinking.

I thought it was like an online storage where I could move stuff like apps back and forth with out a lot of trouble.  Snag it from the cloud and use it and then shove it back in there and it save my stuff like it was on my phone.

My phone automatically backs up to Icloud and I've never had any privacy issues. I deleted a bunch of apps I use only certain times of the year and it's easy just to  retrieve it from the cloud with all your data still saved in it

the current version is iOS 8.4.1 so you would really haven't updated in awhile. I don't think you would even have enough storage to update it fully since there are so many new things.

I am on my second  iPhone and never had a problem with update and not enough space. I back my phone up to the cloud. Helps to keep any extraneous stuff off my phone.
Did you check with Apple?

What you put into icloud is not actually data stored on your phone. It is in the cloud so it won't count for data on your phone and you could put stuff like pictures, music, etc in there to clear up your storage a bit.
