Is this legal?
« on: August 09, 2015, 08:30:20 pm »
Bill collector harassment threats emails and or calls while you're making regular timely payments?

Can bill collectors harass you while you are continuing to make on time payments on a bill

Also can they close or lock your account right after a payment has been made if payments have been made on a regular basis?

Is this legal meaning within a bill collectors rights to harass you and or block an account as payments are being made regularly :confused1:  ???

If you really want a valid answer, ask a legal adviser, not a penny click forum.

Why would a bill collector harass you, if you are current with your payment schedule? Doesn't make sense to me.

I agree, why would they be harassing you if you're on time.  Makes no sense.  I can't imagine it's legal but I would contact the merchant of the credit card and get it straightened out.   Really don't understand.  Has to be some kind of mix up if you are current. I would check into it because if you are current and there is some kind of error your credit score will be affected.

If you are not behind on your payments they should not be bothering you.

Are the payments behind?  Yes, they can close your account at any time for any reason.  If you read the terms of service you will see that.  Not sure why they would be calling and harassing you about payments unless the payments are behind.  You may be making regular payments but still be 2, 3 or more months behind.  In that case yes they can call you about the delinquent payment.

If you are behind on the payments but are making a payment (the regular payment) every month then explain when they call you are doing the best you can do.  If they get smart either ask them for a supervisor or hang up and call the company yourself and ask for a supervisor.  Although if it has been turned over to collections it may be harder to get a supervisor on the phone.

Also if we are talking about a charge account and it is behind then yes they have every right to stop you from charging more on an account you are behind on paying.

Sounds like you're getting scam calls.  They do this to people all the time.  They're fishing for victims.  Do NOT click on the links in their e-mail.  If you're paying on your bill the debt should still be with the company.  They send the debt out for collection if it's not getting paid.  Enter the number into your search engine and see who it really is.  Most likely you'll find sites where other people are posting about their experience with these people.  Then you can block the number.

Contact the Better Business Bureau or your county attorney (if you are in KY).
Have a wonderful day!

I would just block them.....I don't think it is legal but the best advise is to contact an attorney. Or just agree to pay them $1.00 a month, they can not refuse any payment. :-X

I also don't understand why you would be harassed if you're making your payments on time.  You're question doesn't make sense; which leads me to believe, that you're not being truthful with us.

Have a great day!

This is Such a silly Question.. Is harrasment of any form legal? I don't think so.. So that right there answers your questions.... I would suggest blocking the number as it may be a scam..and even if it's not.. i would block it anyways as harrasment is not something i take very lightly..

If you read in the fine print of anything you sign.. it will state that they have the right to pretty much do anything they please.. The reason you are asked to read it before you read it is because there are usually alot of hidden things in there that people will not catch or read and just sign.. They will also let you know what you are responsible for and what they are responsible for.. I'm pretty sure.. They will not be responsible for any scam you fall into..

I would call this company... let them know what is going on and check on the status of your bill.. Meaning.. Make sure you know how much your payments are...what you are actually paying on... I know some bills you are actually paying the intrest first not the actual payment... Make sure you are looking into things like that.. Make sure everything is coinsiding with each other.. and you are understanding everything correctly.... They will let you know if you are behind and or on time and caught up with everything..

The best thing to do is to call or ask a lawyer. I am not sure whether it is legal or not.
