The overwhelming majority of people in the US are Vitamin D deficient due to lack of time in the sun (this is becoming more and more prevalent in youth). This increases the risk of high blood pressure, tuberculosis, cancer, periodontal disease, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain, seasonal affective disorder, peripheral artery disease, cognitive impairment which includes memory loss and foggy brain, and several autoimmune diseases including type 1 diabetes.
It's a matter of finding balance and being aware of the pros/cons. No blanket statement of "the sun is terrible for you" or "if you sit in the sun you'll die" can be made. Obviously a blanket statement saying "the sun is definitely healthy" is factually incorrect as well.
