I don't sit out and tan, but I do like to get tan while doing something outside (walking, yard work, etc.).  I just get too restless laying down outside for too long.

I have 5 older sisters and I remember the days they would pull a blanket into the back yard, put on sun tanning lotion and lay there and sweat!  Then later in the day look in the mirror for bathing suit tan lines.
Today I just get in the kids pool and hop on a float. Who am I kidding, its my pool!  :fish:

All of you people should read the studies on tanning and skin cancer.  1 sunburn drastically increases the risk.  My father-in law was a fisherman and died a terrible death from melanoma.  This is not a game- it's you life and your children's lives you're dealing with.

i used to sit out and tan religiously, but now i'm starting to take really good care of my skin...i tan really easily, but i only get what tan i can with a high SPF, and don't sit out hours and hours at a time anymore.

I love to set out in the yard with a good book, the sprinkler going for my children and work on my tan. Very relaxing to me.

The overwhelming majority of people in the US are Vitamin D deficient due to lack of time in the sun (this is becoming more and more prevalent in youth).  This increases the risk of high blood pressure, tuberculosis, cancer, periodontal disease, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain, seasonal affective disorder, peripheral artery disease, cognitive impairment which includes memory loss and foggy brain, and several autoimmune diseases including type 1 diabetes.

It's a matter of finding balance and being aware of the pros/cons.  No blanket statement of "the sun is terrible for you" or "if you sit in the sun you'll die" can be made.  Obviously a blanket statement saying "the sun is definitely healthy" is factually incorrect as well.
