Bullies
« on: July 19, 2015, 05:37:17 am »
I guess trying to understand why people feel the need to bully others - whether it's a co-worker, a classmate, the cashier where you shot, or others posting online - is something there is no need in even trying to understand.  I just don't get people.  Cannot comprehend or understand why people are so mean and evil these days.  And then that very person is usually the first one to play the victim.  Smh.

It doesn't excuse the behavior, but many bullies are the result of being victimized themselves in some way. Like so many other negative social behaviors (domestic violence, child molestation, alcoholism) bullying is often the result of learned behavior or being victimized by the same behavior.  Some are able to break the cycle while others fall into the same behavior moving from a position of weakness to a position of power.

I disagree.  Most people who are bullied are not going to treat others the same way.  I do agree with it being a learned behavior.  Kids who have parents who bully others see that and act the same way.  And kids who see their parents respect others and are taught that is how to act will also act that way.

Bullies are very insecure people. I think they don't like themselves, and feel that they have to bully someone else in order to feel superior.  Or maybe just to feel like they have power over something or someone.

I agree with that. Bullying other people probably makes them feel great, gives them a boost to their ego. I don't understand it completely but it fulfills some kind of need for them.

i really don't understand bullying. i think that a bully feel more power over the person that they are bullying and making someone feel powerless by bullying them gives the bully a satisfaction that they tore that persons down.i think that a bully should have it done back to them then maybe the would stop to think of their actions before they do it again.

It is usually people with a low self esteem that mostly do all the bullying so they can lift themselves up at the expense of others.

I think that the behavior that you described is generally attributed to people that are very insecure with themselves and suffer from their own self esteem problems. It happens in all walks of life. I have seen my wife's friends speak poorly of others. These friends are also frequent visitors to the plastic surgeon and a weekly meeting with the psychologist. I do not berate them for their enhancements or delving into why they have problems but I do think less of them because they appear to shred other people in an attempt to make themselves look better. One of the project leaders at my daytime job is an ex-police officer that failed in that vocation. He seems to take pleasure in belittling people and flaunting what he feels to be a superior intellect but doesn't realize that people think less of him because of it.

A bully is anyone who uses power and intimidation to control or overpower someone else.People who bully others feel weak, inferior and inadequate, so they bully others to prove their strength, superiority and power.

I have been thinking a lot.  I was bullied in grade school really bad.  I don't think the witch that bullied me was insecure.  She was popular, had money for whatever she wanted, and no reason to be insecure.  I think she was just a b*tch.  She was popular and picked on me and everyone laughed and joined in.

I have witnessed customers totally berating a cashier for something that is in no way the cashiers fault.  I call what I have seen bullying.  I have seen customers who purposely go thru the same cashiers line and complain on them every time.  Just trying to get the cashier in trouble.  I don't really think the jerk is insecure.  Just an @ssh*le.    I just don't understand why people have to act like that.  What satisfaction could you possible get out of getting someone fired that you do not even know.  I just can't wrap my mind around that.

I remember a few years ago when Walmart had the one hour photo (not sure if they still do) and a woman's pictures were not ready because the machine went down.  I remember her screaming at the cashier and cursing her.  The cashier was NOT to blame.  But what I witnessed was def bullying.  And I have noticed I see this type of behavior more and more.  I just don't get it.

Yeah I've seen that kind of bullying too. They probably think because they're popular and rich it's ok to do it. It's like a sense of entitlement.

People are very selfish . That is why they play the victim. They thrive on attention. Wish I knew the answer to the why. We really have to be watchful. BMaston12

I agree - some people are just mean.  I wonder if they grew up with mean parents?  Or maybe siblings?
