Do people still crochet?
« on: July 17, 2015, 08:49:24 am »
I started crocheting in February, and I've become "hooked".
Right now, I'm working on two different, chevron afghans. One is blue and teal for my house, and one is different shades of grey and pink for my sister-in-law's baby, who is due in November.

I was curious is anyone else likes to crochet, and if so, what projects are you working on?

My elderly mother still crochets fairly often.  On a recent visit, my 8 year old daughter asked my mom to teach her how.   She started to learn and then her cousins also wanted to know how.  Out of three of them -- girls 8 and 10, and a 12 year old boy -- the boy is the one who has become the most interested and dedicated!  Not trying to fall into stereotyping here, but he is the typical reckless, invincible, "play every sport known to man and then some" :male: kid, but still out performs his younger  :female: sister and  :female: cousin when it comes to yarn and the needle!

I think that's great that the cousins are all learning something like crocheting from their grandmother.  I bet it's making her happy as a clam.   Nothing wrong with the young boy doing it and let's hope no one makes fun of him for doing it.  What a great tradition.   This made me smile today.  Thanks!

Yes, go figure, right!

I have a piece here I started about 20 years ago! Haven't picked up the needle to even try and complete. I have looked at the piece from time to time, but i don't know where the needle is.
My daughter came to visit and she saw the piece and she wants me to teach her how. I hope she can stay in one place long enough to learn.

I like your pun, "hooked".  A few years ago I drove up to my mom's home.  She lives out of state.  I taught her how to crochet at that time.  A few months later she sent me a beautiful afghan that she made for me.

I enjoy crocheting; however, I haven't spent time doing it recently.  I have supplies in my closet.  I like making dish clothes that I use for cleaning my kitchen.

Have a great day!

Rosie Greer, a famous football player, did needle point.  No stereotypes.

I knit and crochet regularly, but more in the winter than in the hot summer.  In fact I design in crochet and have several patterns available, so far.  I learned crochet in grade school and added knitting in high school.

I started learning in April and I love it.  I've made a few doilies, a hat and a few stuffed animals for gifts. I love seeing the stuffed animals come to life as I go along.  I would love to learn how to create my own patterns for them, but I'm intimidated by that at the moment.

Coincidentally, I am also working on a chevron afghan now, and I'm loving how it's turning out.  It's various colors of blues, purples and grey.  There are so many things on my list of projects that I want to get to, but I can only go so fast.  :)

I'm also planning on teaching my mom more advanced crochet techniques, as she only knows a couple stitches.

It's awesome to see that people still embrace the craft!

I've been planning a bunch of blankets/afghans to make as gifts for friends and family. After that I might start making thing to sell on etsy.

I see people do it, but I never have ever learned, someone tried to teach me once, but I just don't have that gift I suppose.

I don't have time or patience for that, but I have several friends that do.  They are really good at it, knitting too.

Yes, I haven't done it in a while, but I do like crocheting, and still do it occasionally.
