Has anyone here ever do crowdfunding/crowdsourcing?
« on: June 28, 2015, 04:53:47 am »
I wanted to know if anyone here has ever done crowdfunding or crowdsourcing before (i.e., raising donations from friends, family, and strangers for a particular cause, such as charity, paying bills, etc.).

I am thinking of doing it so I can finish paying off a student loan by the middle of next year. So far, I went from $12,400 to $9,420 in this year alone! I put most of my income (and all of my FC earnings) towards it. Very excited about it, but just want to get it off my back sooner than later. :-)

Never have done this before. Doesn't hurt to try though and see what happens.

We did it for our adoption, but weren't successful at it. Only raised $1000 when we needed $30,000. We're going through the foster system now.

Thank you for your comments, guys. That was one of the first things I thought about, vp44. And mjdoug03, I am sorry to hear that you were unable to raise the amount you were seeking. :-(

I donated ten dollars to my friend who just lost his son in a car accident, but I have never hosted one.

It doesn't hurt to set one up so long it's nothing "frivolous" (which yours is not.)  There are some I see where it's like "Uh...huh."  But in your case, it's an easy way for your family/friends to help you out even if it's a bit of money.

Never heard of it, but it sounds like a great idea to raise money.

I have "tried" to without much luck. I'm a single mom with high deductible insurance and my daughter's broken wrist is up to about 2 month's salary... every little bit helps, but you really need to be able to "sell your case."

With that said, I have donated to various causes in the past.

I have never done it for myself. I have donated though. As  mentioned previously, you must be able to sell your cause to compete against all the others.

First I have heard of Crowdfunding or Crowdsourcing.  It's sounds like an interesting way of being able to help you pay off your student loan.  I hope it works for you.  :)

I now some people who have done it and done well.  I know some people who were trying to raise money to put a well in on their property.  They had got quite a bit of money and then moved.   I am just a little leary of who I give money to.

Has it helped? I'll be graduating May 2016 and I'm going to have to pay back loans, too. :/
Opinion: 1) a view, judgment, or appraisal formed in the mind about a particular matter 2) belief stronger than impression and less strong than positive knowledge
This is the internet, learn to let people have opinions. And don't be so sensitive.  8)

I've never done crowdfunding, but I like what has come out of them so far. Even for the every few flops, the successful ones are great

I've never used, but I heard people have had good results with them, guess it would not hurt for you to try you never know you might be very successful; good luck.
