My itchy dog
« on: June 24, 2015, 03:46:13 pm »
I have bathed my dog with special shampoos but she is still itchy. I am worried about it turning into hot spots. Does anyone use a product that iss easy to apply (no bath needed) to relieve itching in their dog? Would love some recommendations.

HI SG,There is a site called Dinovite. They specialize in products for dogs that have this problem. It might be another condition rather than just bathing them.

I bought shampoo from them and it seems good. They also have another product you mix with their food that is supposed to help with those conditions.

It might be wise to check with a vet first. But again check out the Dinovite site.Google it.

Lemme know how you make out.I absolutley LOVE dogs and will always go outta my way for Gods creatures!

My dog has recently developed lots of hotspots. I think there may be a type of spray you can get. We have been using hot spot shampoo and giving her benedryl at night. Seems to be helping.

Well there are many reasons dogs scratch...
-fleas&ticks
-allergies
-skin conditions
-boredum
-etc

The first thing to do is to identify the problem

Alot of dogs start scratching more around summer...
heat , allergies, and fleas& ticks is the most common reasons

When i first got my pup at 6 weeks he had mange.. I started to ask around, get recommendations, and even ask professional help.. Well In conclusion we got a great product called Sulfodene.. which runs about $3.99 a bottle  It cleared his mange up pretty quick....

We also found out he is very sensitive to shampoos so i basically use the oatmeal shampoo's as a bathe..

I have tried many itching relief's and not many of them work... (which i am actually using one now for the itch relief which semi-works half the time it dogs stop them from scratching for a while which is good!)

Needless to say.. he still scratches but not as bad as before..
but the mange is no longer an issue..

Dawn Dish Soap is actually pretty effective for propelling flea's (outside is the best place to do this if indeed your dog has flea's and or ticks)

Also over bathing and to much shampoo can cause their skin to dry out and the itching begins..

I have also  Recently heard about mixing Epsolm Salt with warm water and washing the infected area (I have not tried this yet but plan on trying it in the future)

I am actually pretty thrilled about this post as i may get some information someone else know's that i did not that could help my pup's as well!

My dog has allergies so our vet recommended childrens benadryl.  He scratched so much that he started getting bald spots. So far he has been pretty good. Talk to your vet to see what they recommend for your dog.

Our little dog doesn't scratch as much as he used to and I think it may be due to the Dinovite we add to his food 2x a day.  He still scratches a little but not like he used to.  I just read on FB yesterday that Dawn dishwashing liquid kills fleas on contact if anyone is having that problem with their dog.

Patti thanx for verifying what i put up earlier RE Dinovite.

But again getting professional diagnosis from a vet should be in order. You dont wanna treat a condition if thats not whats causing the itching.

I bought shampoo, treats and the Dinovite product you mix with the food and so far i think their site is very reputable.Plus it seems they care about their customers.

Just bring to the vet so that you can get a right medications. Last when my dog is like the vet prescribed an ointment to put on his back.

Our little dog has the same issue.   Summertime is absolutely the worst.  He will walk back and forth under our coffee table scratching his back.   Tried many different products with no help.   It's difficult because you know your dog is suffering.  I finally started searching for natural remedies.   I found a site that recommended a small amount of olive oil over his dog food.   Have been doing this regularly and I'm shocked at how much it has helped.  It has something to do with the lack of fatty acids in dog food.

Of course I would be sure to check with your vet to be sure there isn't anything serious wrong.    It has worked wonders for our dog and he seems to enjoy the added taste.

Take your dog to he vet!
My dog has very bad allergies. It has been a very bad allergy season, at least it has been here in the Northeast. My dog will scratch  so much that he had bald spots and he would bleed. His fur was extremely thin. He now gets shots and is on a new allergy med and he is doing well. He also was on a food trail to rule out food allergies.

We use Frontline Plus and have never had a problem.

My sister uses dinovite for her lab and she swears by it.

Good Luck!

Thanks, I will check it out. I know she has allergies. She also just has really thick fur (double coated) and gets hot. I think when she sheds it becomes a bigger problem.

thanks, yes we addressed this with the vet a while back and they said they could do allergy testing (quite spendy) but recommend a few other things first like half a zyrtec daily and special shampoo, along with a no grain diet. I have done everything but the zyrtec. I would rather do the allergy testing before medicating her.
Someone else mentioned dinovite, so i am going to look it up.
Thanks!
