MYOB (Mind Your Own Business)
« on: May 29, 2015, 03:21:31 am »
I was outside yesterday, working in my yard when one of my neighbors stopped to chat.
We sat on the porch, and after a few minutes of talking about gardening and such, she started telling me about my neighbors.
This one does that, and that one does this, omg did you hear about??

None of this was my business, or hers. None of it was illegal, or harming anyone, so why tell it?

I hate gossip.

Did you tell her this?  Or did you sit and listen and participate in the conversation?

Some people just feel like they have to tell everyone they meet everyone's business.  I hate people like that.  I always think if you are talking and saying things about so and so.....what are you saying about me?  I try to avoid those people.

I dislike noisy neighbors like that... Esp. if they don't really know you or your situation, yet not only pass judgement on you but also tells others what they think (and sometimes as though it is known facts instead of just their opinion). I once had a terrible roommate (that I later had to evict), and I got blamed by a few neighbors for their actions because one noisy neighbor had told the neighborhood that we were "shacking up" without a secure job. But once I evicted this roommate, some of the neighbors came by and started talking to me about the situation and realized that although this roommate was irresponsible, I was actually a very responsible neighbor. Then their perception of me made a complete change.

Oh yeah, I told her.
I asked her, "Why is this my business? Why are you telling me this?"
She said, "I just thought you ought to know what your neighbors are up to.."
And I told her, I don't CARE what they're "up to." It's not my business.
I told her it wasn't her business, either.
I don't think that will stop her though. She really just does not get it.

That's exactly why I do my best to avoid this particular neighbor.  I've had several people come and ask me if I did or said something, because this woman had told them all about it. Of course, what she was telling was made up stuff out of her own head.

Seems like there's at least one in every neighborhood. I guess it makes them feel important. All it really does is cause trouble, and it's just such a waste.

Obviously, you are the better person.  :angel11:

It's very hard not to listen to gossip, so it's admirable that you stopped her in her tracks.

I get the same thing.  I'm either stuck up because I don't talk to people, or I'm crazy because I talk to my plants.   ;D
I don't go out of my way to talk to people, mainly because I don't want any part of the drama.

Life is too short to waste on gossip.

Some people just love to talk. I love to not talk to people.  I hate small talk.

I try to avoid people who are big gossips. I don't really care what the neighbors or other people do, as long as it doesn't affect me. Even on Facebook, I try to stay away from all the gossip and drama.

I don't know that I stopped her, but maybe I slowed her down a little..  :)
