Begging for Money
« on: May 10, 2015, 04:51:27 am »
I am just curious as to if when you are in a parking lot and someone comes up to you with a sob story asking for money if you give it to them?  When I got off work last night and was walking to my truck a man followed me to my truck and told me a sob story I don't believe for a minute and was asking for money for he and his wife.  I didn't think about it until I was driving down the road or I would have told him we are hiring along with several fast food places that have signs in their windows or on there billboards.  Go put in an application.  There are not a lot of jobs especially not good jobs but fast food places and the like are hiring for the summer.  It makes me mad for people to say crap like their kid is starving, they are homeless, they have not eat in a week and on and on but yet still refuse to get a job because fast food is beneath them.

Yes this is a problem, and it is scary too. You never know what people might do.

I feel bad, but I don't give money to anyone I don't know personally. I don't mind people holding signs by the road, but I really hate getting approached by someone asking for money. That infuriates me.

I agree, and I don't look down on homeless people because I'm pretty sure that being homeless was the last alternative to all other things they could've done to prevent those circumstances.  Plus, everyone has some kind of ailment that could land you in a position that others would look down on you for.

I usually donate to people, I feel like it's the least I can do since I don't tithe.  I freely give to those on the side of the road but I'd prefer no one not come up to me until after I'm in my truck.  Last year, I gave $2 to a man who said he needed gas to get home and he had the audacity to say "is this all you can spare?!" I was infuriated! I told him he can give it back! The nerve smh

This homeless thing is actually a hustle for some, but as long as you know you gave with a good heart you will be blessed for it.

I try to give whenever I can and whenever I have a few extra dollars in my pocket. It is rare that I am in public because I am forever working but when I do I will give. I generally don't carry cash because we are in a plastic society but if I have it I will give. If the people are using it for illicit reasons or lying about the reason for their need they will have a higher power to answer too. Kharma goes a long way and for every dollar I give it seems to come back to me ten-fold. The one person said it right...you can't get a job if you have no home address-should sink in a little deeper. I think that it is wrong for cities to lay ordinances on homeless people asking for money ( who really need it and use 100% of it to survive) but then allow other charitable organizations like firemen to panhandle for MDMA or girl scouts to sell overpriced cookies and over forty percent of it goes into corporate pockets under the pretense of administration.

Yes. I give money to help the poor. You may disagree. But I can't stand it when people walk by and ignore another human being who needs help.  Call me naive. I don't care.

As christians it is always a dilemna for my sons and I when we see people out with homeless signs begging for money.  We live on a very and I do mean very frugal income - my son washes dishes for minimum wage and I receive disability and my other son is unable to work at the present time but doesn't get unemployment or anything.  Ok here is the deal we budget carefully and I'm sure washing dishes for minimum wage isn't my son's idea of the greatest job but he does it to help his family.  I want to help folks - in 2008 we were one step away from being homeless but it ticks me off to think some of these people could be working fast food and there are food banks in our town.  I don't know half the time we still give them money which probably goes for drugs or alcohol but I try to let God sort that out with them.

I don't. I used to, but I work 3 jobs and put in about 90 hours a week. I can't afford even a couple of bucks. It's hard to trust whether or not they need it. We have a lot of people who work the same corner every day.

I am a sympathetic person by nature. However, I am cynical of those who panhandle. Most of them are drug addicts who are looking for some money to feed their habit. I cannot stand those individuals. I usually just pass them by, without a second glance.

I won't give them money, because they can very easily blow it on alcohol or drugs. Instead, I'll ask them what they need, and I'll buy it for them. If they say they are hungry, I will buy them a meal, that way, I know for sure they are getting what they need and not spending my money foolishly.
