Silver Sneakers Program
« on: May 02, 2015, 11:07:21 pm »
Do any of you belong to the Silver Sneakers program?

It's typically for recipients of Medicare.  If you have Medicare your Health Insurance company might allow you the benefit of participating in the Silver Sneakers program.

I'm not old enough...yet...to qualify for Medicare; however, I do have Medicaid.  I was recently informed that I'll need to choose a Health Care Insurance before July of 2015.

The Silver Sneakers Program means that your Health Insurance company will pay for you to be a member of a fitness center so you can exercise for free.

I'd love to have that benefit.

Do you belong to a fitness center?  Are you part of the Silver Sneakers program?

Have a great day!

Our insurance offers this option but we don't use it.

How old do you have to be to belong to the Silver Sneakers Program?    I would love to get my parents involved in that.

I have never heard of it, as I am not old enough either. Sounds like a nice program though.

You have to be receiving Medicare and part of a Medicare Advantage program that has a gym membership.  My particular one is not Silver Sneakers but Silver n' Fit, I believe.  It is the same thing as Silver Sneakers.  There are several approved gyms within about 5 miles of my home and I picked one about 2 miles away.  I have been there about 14 or 15 times this year thus far.  They have a trainer who has developed a class for my age group that meets several times per week.  One class focuses on cardio and the other focuses on weight training.  I really like it when I get motivated enough to get there.  Sometimes I just go to walk on the treadmill and use a few of the weight machines.  It's a great benefit as far as I'm concerned.

My insurance company offers it but I haven't used it.  I'm way too far from a fitness center or gym to make it worthwhile for me.

We have Humana, a Medicare Insurance.  My husband uses the Silver Sneakers program.  It is really great.  I am trying to get well enough to be able to use it, but my arthritis keeps me from doing a lot of exercise.

I am sure it will be great when I reach the age requirement.  I don't have a membership in a fitness center.  I use my equipment in my home.  Save money that  way.
