Professional Athletes' Earnings--Crazy!!!

In the face of the Mayweather-Pacquiao boxing debacle, I can't believe each will be taking home $100,000,000.  Pay-per-view is around $100!!!  How does that happen when school teachers often start at about $30,000 a year?  Something is wrong with this picture!!! 

What are your thoughts on this subject?

It's ridiculous to get such a huge pay day for punching somebody else. Granted, I have a lot of respect for athletes and don't mind that they earn a lot of $, but this fight is all about the profits and nothing else which is disgusting..

We spend money on what we value.  Our educational system would be much better if we put the same money into our schools that we do into our professional athletes.  I am an adult literacy tutor.  It is a shame for me to see how many adults lack basic literacy skills.

ONE HUNDRED MILLION???  Did you type that correctly?  Or did you mean One hundred THOUSAND?  Surely it's not 100 MILLION.  That is insane.

MADERA, it also amazes me at the number of adults who cannot read or barely read but honestly I blame them not the school system.  People don't care.  They are lazy.  When I was in school a kid could be paddled for not doing homework, goofing off in class, disrupting class, not paying attention among other things.  Today if a kid does not want to do their homework all a teacher can say is oh well and thanks to the "no brat left behind" the teacher can no longer fail them.  I remember hearing not long ago where the lowest grade a student can receive is a 60.  This is even if they do not do the assignment.  Now THAT is crazy.  As long as somebody is going to bail them out and take care of them then why would they try to do any better.

I knew each boxer would make some type of profit I didn't know it was 100 million! That's insane! I feel being a pro athlete is hard work but to make that type of money isn't right.

What's insane about it? The projected revenue from the fight is around $400-$500 million. Seems completely reasonable to me.

Teachers salaries are completely unrelated. Bringing them up in this context is just silly.

They're not the only ones with a huge payday.Athletes get millions for playing football or basketball. Don't even ask about  actors etc also millions ffor movies i suppose if they ask for millions they get it.Gimme some when i'm doing a survey for 80cents or watching a video for a penny ummmm.

The only reason they get that kind of pay out is because people are supporting them by buying tickets, paying for pay-per-view and the like.  We all would be better off if everyone would start BETTING on our SOLDIERS instead of these sports events.  I personally, think our soldiers deserve that kind of pay, not those playing sports.

I believe that Mayweather took home one hundred and sixty million dollars while Pacquiao took home forty million dollars.  These two fighters have reached the heights of boxing and people are willing to shell out big dollars to watch these events. So much, in fact, that pay per view has reportedly made one hundred million dollars as well. These boxers have given their lives, bodies and minds to be in that ring.  All they have done for six months has been eat exact amounts of food, train all day to exhaustion, given up on all social interaction/entertainment so that they could make it into the fighting arena and get their heads blasted and pummeled.  They will, most likely, suffer long lasting brain damage if they ever recover.  They are only at their prime for a short period and will not be able to do this for the rest of their lives.

Boxing is not just a sport, it's a job that is short lived, so they demand as much money as they can.  A lot of them come away with many physical problems after been beaten and hit so many times.
