I beg to disagree. With all due respect, low impact exercises are beneficial but so is lifting weights. You've got to change up your exercise plan to get the most benefit. Just use moderation and know your limitations.  :highfive:

I disagree - lifting weights is for everyone.  The benefits far outweigh the alternative because when you lift weights (and they don't have to be 100 lb. dumb bells) you keep burning fat even at rest - something that only lifting weights can do for you.

Yes light weights are probably the best you can always work your way up to heavier ones...my opinion.

When you're lifting weights, you've got to work your way up.  Don't start out with more than you can handle.  That would be the best way to hurt yourself.  I have to agree with the others, lifting weights is wonderful.  It builds muscle (and no, you don't have to look like a body builder).  If you're a senior, start out with lighter weights (5 lbs.).  Even that will help you if you've never lifted weights before.

Yes, I agree, there is a right way and wrong way to weightlift. I myself am trying to bulk up a bit as I lost a lot of weight and now need to start toning. But I won't push myself to the point where I get injured.

If you have good form and don't try to lift weights that are too heavy for you then I don't see anything wrong with lifting weights. Cardio alone isn't enough, lifting weights aids a lot in losing weight and toning/building muscle.

I started lifting weights a few weeks ago. When I started, I used light weights. My plan is to add 10 pounds every 30 to 40 days. I don't want to get big. I just want to tone my body.

If you're hurting yourself it's because you're lifting too heavy and/ or using poor form.

Strength training has more benefits than doing other types of exercise

I am starting to lift weights again, and going to the gym every other day until I feel comfortable going more then that. But I hope by next year I will be able to compete in a bikini fitness model competition. That's my goal. But lifting weights is great if you use the right form and not trying to lift 60lbs when you haven't lifted anything before.

I lift weights, but I am also careful about the weights of my tools.  I do know if you try to push it, you will hurt yourself.
