Raising the Minimum Wage
« on: April 05, 2015, 02:51:31 pm »
Do you think raising the minimum wage genuinely helps the working poor or just, in the long run, drives prices up for everyone and ends up being negligible?

I think it is a good idea and hopefully more jobs to come along with it.

Yes, it should be raised.   For all those who don't think it should be (especially politicians) I would like to see them live on a minimal wage salary for two months and see how they make it.   Perhaps trade salaries with someone who does earn minimal wage for two months.

It should be raised with inflation but raising it too much can cause other prices to rise...

It should be raised, try living on a pay with minimun wage.  I'm sure by doing this, it will have a snowball effect on the economy.  I don't have the answer for that, but I'm not a pollitician either.  I just don't kniw how people can be expected to live on minimum wage jobs.  You can probably get more on welfare,(food stamps, HUD housing, Medicaid, CHIPS - free medical care for kids, breaks on heating costs, etc), would the politicians rather the people working (minimun wage), who are trying to help themselves and work full time all go on welfare?

its a good idea but its a bad one to because with the raise of minimum wage comes higher prices eveywhere else which takes more and more out of the pockets of people just bearly getting by to begin with. It's good for the ones earning that but it hurts the people who are just getting by

Do you think raising the minimum wage genuinely helps the working poor or just, in the long run, drives prices up for everyone and ends up being negligible?

Raising the min wage will not help anything.  A few years ago when the min wage was 5.25 you could get a gallon of milk for about $2.  Min wage is now 7.25 and milk is around $5 a gallon.  The price of everything has went up.  I got groceries this morning and my total was over $100 and I just had a few bags.  If min wage goes up to $15 like the burger flippers are screaming then the people with an education who make $15 will want more and the ones above them will want more.
It's a simple concept.  If you want to make $15 an hour then get an education and get a job that pays that much.  No, you cannot live on $7.25 an hour.  But you can't run a register at McDonald's and expect to be paid like you are an RN.  The biggest thing would be to let the people WORK more than 15 hours a week.  It really doesn't matter because this country is so far down the crapper there is no way to come back from it.

And the point is if you raise min wage and then the price of everything goes up then raising the min wage is futile because you are paying more for everything so you are not really getting more money.  But people are too stupid to see that.

You are not suppose to live on min wage.  That is the whole point.  Although that is all a lot of people can get right now - but min wage was suppose to be a starting point.  You work hard and get a better job or a promotion or go to school and get an education and get a better job.  Min wage was never suppose to be a job to raise a family on.

People are fixing to see what raising the min wage or wages in general will do.  Prices at Walmart are already going up.  I have noticed a huge difference lately.  I have also seen where all jobs start at no lower than $9 an hour at Walmart.  The ones who have worked there for years are also going to want a raise equal to what everyone making $7 something got.  When WM has to start paying everyone a lot more money they will raise their prices.  You can bet the higher ups are going to make money.  Not lose or break even so the employees who are worth no more than before are being paid more.  People need to learn to live within their means.  Having the internet, cable tv, steaks, going on vacation, all that stuff is IF you can afford it.  You do not have a right to any of it.  I hear people cry all the time about how hard their life is and they can't pay their bills but yet they still have internet at home, cable or satellite tv, and other suck luxuries.  It is possible to live in your home with no electric, no telephone, and you eat what you can afford ie peanut butter or cheese sandwiches.  Suck it up.

Raising the minimum wage to a ridiculous amount (i.e., $15.00 per hr.) would do nothing positive not even for those who would be earning it.  You would pay more for the item or services you buy and the person making the money would PAY MORE IN TAXES!!!!!!!!!!  I call that a LOSE, LOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
