I have AHS and it is OK, they send someone to your house very fast, you only pay the deductible.  But some people had said they replace appliances when they break down and I guess it depends on the appliance age.  My washer broke down 6 times in 6 months and they sent someone to FIX every time, last time they need it to replace the belts, the drum and the motor (my washer id 15 years old) and they rather replace the parts than replace the washer, I requested for them to just give me a new one.  They gave me $300 for the old one and I had to put the difference to get a new one.  I still have them because of my a/c might break down soon and I am hoping they will get me something better but after that i will stop paying for a while.

They are ok, but if you never have to use it then you are just throwing money down the drain. Most people rarely have to use the AHS.  Most washer are only good for about 5 years before things start to go wrong, first it is little things and then it gets to be the expensive items. But I have had this washer and dry now for 8 years and not problems. Dads was 15 years old when I took it in for repairs and he just needed a belt. He never had the AHS. So he has had his money out of the washer.  I never bought it because first your appliance has a warrenty  for the first year and some up to three. Mine was. You are a lucky one if you got $300. to help buy a new one. usueyl that old you don't get anything.

Thanks for the response.  I may consider getting AHS because my appliances are getting a little older.  I wish I had it a year ago when I had to get a new AC.

I remember watching Clark Howard on tv discussing this very point. He said that new appliances rarely break down but if you have older appliances and are worried about things going pair shaped, instead of taking the risk of possibly throwing money away, why not put the money (say $50 per month) into a savings account and then when you do have a breakdown, you'll have some money put aside for such eventualities. If you don't need it, you can spend it on something else.
