Starting over at 60 is quite a challenge. After losing my husband from a long illness, I did not have much recent job experience. We had our own business, but it was manual labor. I have been replaced by new tech for what I did 15 or 20 years ago. Nothing is the same as it was. I am having to start at the bottom and work myself back out. Wish me luck. BMaston12

oh my starting over at sixty i will definitly keep you in my thoughts that has to be hard my wife is fifty been disabled for years now and finally she might be a candidate for surgery we are sure keeping our fingers crossed.  we are hoping that she will be able to work after her surgery but its iffy at best but she is excited about the thought of returning to work but will have to work in a new field

It is hard to begin anew at anything regardless of age.  I think that young people (really people at any age) have a difficult time especially when coming into the job market fresh out of college. Without any job experience it is difficult to determine how someone will acclimate to the pressures of a job and the demands  that come up on a daily basis. Sometimes people get caught up in saying it is because of their age, sex, color, political affiliation, sexuality...whatever excuse. I think that my success in maintaining at least two jobs (since I was fifteen) has come from my track record of adaptability, hard work ethic, and willingness to do what so many others won't.

        You can be an A+ at everything at work. Unfortunately after 50 years, some companies will simply not hire you or renew your contract. Age discrimination exists. When you are young, they usually tell you: "You do not have enough education or work experience or we are looking for someone with a different background". At middle age, they tell you: "We are promoting one of our seniors". Then when you are a senior, they try to hire younger people they can train and stay with the company for the next three to ten years. It is the way age works in the workplace.
