I very seldom have a problem with the employees at Walmart. Having worked in retail many years, I have seen a lot of nasty customers take all of their frustration out on some one just because they are mad at the world. I feel for those that having to stand for a lot of hours. Your feet hurt, so does your back. I find a smile and a Hi, work great, instead of a frown.

You try working with the public, especially with how badly they're all being treated and how little they're being paid. Working in retail is tough.

it isn't specific to walmart, at least not in my personal experiences. the land of customer service is filled with rude workers.

very sorry to hear about your issue with Walmart.  I personally have never had an issue with returning anything.  The employees have always been friendly.

the greaters are usually nice but sometimes clerks can be rude but most are ok if you treat them nicely.

My husband works for Wal-Mart and i can tell you this. Most of his coworkers and management do not care about customers. I dont blame Wal-Mart im pretty sure these people would act the same regardless of where they work.

I go to Wal-Mart once or twice a month because there is a culture there of rudeness there. Most of the employees will walk right pass you and say hello to another fellow employee, but not greet their customers - the people that allows them to get a paycheck. >:(

Seriously?  Most customers act like they get mad if an employee speaks to them. You ask if they need help and they snarl "I am just looking".  Leave me alone!  Personally, I don't want employees to talk to me.  Just leave me alone and if I need something I will come to you.  I don't need someone to follow me around and make suggestions on what I should buy and point out items that would be better.

You comment proves there is no way for the employee to win.  Whatever they do people are unhappy.  If you do not need assistance why would you care if they stop and talk to you?

It isn't just Walmart; its everywhere. Customer Service isn't what it used to be.

Neither is the attitude from customers.  A few years ago it was rare for a person to go into any store and cuss and rant and rave over stupid little stuff.  But people have learned if they pitch a fit they can get a cheaper price or something for free.   Not to mention people are just pure evil.  I know a woman who actually got a person fired all based on a lie.  The world is not what it use to be.  People are not what they use to be.  It is not just customer service.  People in general are rude and hateful.

I had a friend who worked at a Walmart for a while, and she did get fired because one day she didn't smile enough. So she told me I wouldn't want to work there.

They cannot fire you for not smiling enough.  If they fired her and gave her that as a reason she could get her job back.

My husband works for Wal-Mart and i can tell you this. Most of his coworkers and management does not care about customers. I dont blame Wal-Mart im pretty sure these people would act the same regardless of where they work.

Not true.  You obviously have never had to work for min wage and only get 15 to 18 hours a week and be expected to live on that.  Then no matter what you do management is fussing and yelling at you to get more done.  People call in and then you are expected to do your job and theirs.  I remember when I worked at Walmart I came into a mess.  The department was already behind and it was close to Christmas and people were buying crap faster that we could put it out.  I was in grocery.  I was trying to scan stuff in to put it up and the battery went dead.  I was walking to get a battery and the manager who told me to put the stuff up out of the floor saw me and actually YELLED at me asking me what I was doing walking around.  I tried to tell him but another manager higher up asked him what was wrong and he still yelling tells him basically how worthless I am.  I did not say anything, figured why bother.  Went back to where I was working and proceeded with my new battery to do what he told me to do.  I was fighting back tears, mostly because I was working in the freezer and didn't want them to freeze to my face, and did not want him to have the satisfaction of knowing he could get to me that bad.  Anyway, a few minutes later he came in there and talked to me and said 'you do do a good job.  I get excited and yell but I will tell you you do a good job'.  He did not apologize or tell the other manager I was in the right.  Idk.  Until you have had to put up with the crap of retail, from the job and from demanding customers, you just don't understand.  I have actually seen several retail employees crying on the job because a manager has totally ripped them out on the floor or because a customer has jumped all over them.   People who do not have to deal with the public do not know how good they have it.

Obviously you know me so well...worked for minimum wage more times than i can count. I've been called stupid by customers more times that i care to remember.  Was threatened to be fired by a manager  because i was working multiple jobs and was told i wasn't moving fast enough from one side of the store to the other. I've wiped crap off of senior citizens behinds for $7\hr and was treated badly by CNAs when they were unwilling to do their job and i promise you they were making alot more than me. I dont blame anyone for their actions but that person. I didn't appreciate being blamed or treated badly over things i had no control over so i cannot with a clear conscience blame an entire retail chain for the rudeness or incompetence of one person. None of the rudeness i encountered affected how i treated anyone during the remainder of any of my shifts. It didn't matter that i wanted to hit them, run them over in the parking lot or what have you.

I don't think all of them like that, but encountering rude customers daily may make a person become rude as a defense mechanism. Sorry for your experience.

I think dealing with the public all day would make anyone cranky.
