Questioning the return of a book has nothing to do with rudeness of an employee.  THey are following the guidelines laid out for them.  And I don't agree that "most" employees at walmart are rude.  I am constantly impressed by the clerks who are helpful, engaging, and efficient.  Its especially noteworthy considering their employer.

I went to the Wal-Mart today because I had ordered some books by my favorite author from Wal-Mart.com.  One of the books I ordered, I already had.  They almost didn't take the book back because they said they don't take back books.  I told them I had just got them in the mail the day before.  Finally, a manager came up and took the book back.

I don't think MOST Walmart employees are rude.  Some of them are just like in all jobs.  The person at the return counter is just doing a job and if the policy is to not take books back then that is the policy and the cashier cannot over ride that.  A manager can.  I hate when I as an employee unhold store policy and then a manager comes and gives the customer what they want and makes me look stupid.  I can understand with books because you can read them and bring them back and get your money back.  You might not would do that but a lot of people would.

The employee was probably following the rules of Walmart regarding books.  SOP  Standard Operating Procedure.  The employee isn't allowed to run amok & make decisions outside the basic Walmart ones they are taught to follow; that is why a manager was required, someone who can override Walmart's SOPs.   If the employee would have went against the Walmart procedure, they could possibly face disciplinary action.   It's not worth it to them to lose their job, to them it is not a personal decision whether they take back your book or not, it is a Walmart requirement for them to not take it back.

Don't hate the player, hate the game.

They are not over worked.  The part time people get less than 20 hours a week.  And the full time employees are well paid.

For the most part, I have had really good experiences with the employees at Walmart. I particularly like their idea of having a Greeter at the front of the store as it makes me feel valued and important to their business. The Associates are extremely helpful and on many occasions have gone above and beyond the call of duty to help me with various things. I am desparately trying to think of an occasion when I have been treated less than favorably but in all honesty, I can't think of any.

I would think working in Walmart would be one of the most stressful environments to work in (and all the comments before mine are so true).  I don't know why Walmart doesn't realize if they actually have a happy worker then they found GOLD because it sure isn't those Walmart low wages or their mistreatment of them that inspires them to be great workers.

I agree some of them are very rude, and sometimes they do not even speak good English, I mean english is my second language too, but I have made an effort to talk the language the best way I can and even with my accent I know people understands me, but some of this guys don't even make the effort.

The rudeness is very bad in some stores more than others, and certain races more than others, but we all get this for shopping, at least in my case, for the cheapest place for groceries, almost nothing beats them,

I too am a former employee of this big box retailer.  I was fortunate in working in a department where I really liked the work, the people and management didn't have much to do with me.  However when I transferred out of the department into another from an injury I was shocked at how different things were handled.  I quickly became one of those disgruntled wal-mart associates.  In my new position I only last 4 months... walked off the job and the only thing I regret is having to leave the original department I'd been hired in at.

I go to Wal-Mart once or twice a month because there is a culture there of rudeness there. Most of the employees will walk right pass you and say hello to another fellow employee, but not greet their customers - the people that allows them to get a paycheck. >:(

Why do people have one bad experience and ask the question of why "most people" do something else...There are alot of reason's any person who is working can act rude... It's not always the said person's fault they are acting the way either... Life is just about what you make it.. If you see someone having a bad day and acting rude.. why not tell them hope your day get's better? One nice gesture can always help the situation... Why ask why? Everyone has a bad day.. It's just a part of life... Emotion is what makes us all human...
