What equipment do you need to test video games?

Depends on the testing... Some want the high end of the platform of the game to see how the game plays and for rooting out any bugs, some want to check minimum specs so want the low end of the platform, some want various different platforms to see how the different platforms compare for the same game, etc.

Have you had any experience or education in software testing? Or experience in any product testing in general? I know I keep seeing ads for video game testers, but this is an area where the demand for those jobs is very high (who wouldn't want to be paid to play video games), but are relatively few jobs available (at least legit jobs that offer a fairly good salary). The most you could probably hope for without any experience or education would be to be a beta tester and get early access to the game (and perhaps get to keep the game or a reduced price for the retail version when it comes out).
