The thing to do would be, as soon as you get your cart unloaded, throw the divider down behind your groceries. Then when you move up to the cashier, the person behind you can unload without getting theirs mixed with yours. No muss, no fuss, no confusion.

I was in a store with a long belt and no separator bar.  I had alot of stuff to get out of the cart and midway through I glanced up & saw the cashier scanning an item that was NOT mine.  I told her it wasn't mine and she  she puts it in the bag with my stuff.  I pulled it out & gave it to her and saw other things in that bag that wasn't mine either......    ???

She had to go back through all the bags, item by item to make sure I only had my items and not the stuff the woman behind me had placed on the belt.   I was ticked, the cashier wasn't too happy and the person behind me just standing there with a dumb look on her face, totally clueless.

If anything like that happens again, I'm just going to pay for it and leave the store.  Once items are paid for, they belong to the buyer and the clueless can just go re-shop.   I can return the junk my next trip to the store.  :D

Because most people are space invaders and they are also in a hurry for no good reason.  I try to wait until they have paid be fore I move up to unload but the clerks kind of hate this cause is slows up their line and some of them are timed. But yeah, I agree!

As long as the person in front of me is done putting all their items on the belt, I don't see what the big deal is either.   The conveyor belt is long enough for a lot of goods, to speed up the process.     I like when the person in front puts the separator bar down when they are done so I can begin putting my stuff on the belt.

Really, it's all first world problems.   So many other real issues to worry about, can't control the entire world's grocery habits.    Let it go & focus on the good, at least the person in back of you didn't hit you with their cart & ram the back of your heels  :)

I don't mind people putting their stuff on the belt while the clerk is running mine through but I do get very irrated if they step up close to where you swipe your debit card.  To me that is very rude.  Even if I get my buggy unloaded quickly behind someone I keep my distance until they do their paying to give them as much privacy as possible.

I don't think I've ever encountered a situation where the person behind me was loading their stuff on the belt at the same time I was still putting my items on.  Everyone I've encountered followed the unspoken rule to wait for the person ahead to finish unloading, then place the dividing bar on the belt and unload behind it.

If I encountered someone who was so oblivious to the fact I was still putting my things on the belt, and mixed their items with mine, I would stop and chide that person directly telling them to stop putting their stuff on the belt and wait their turn.  I wouldn't care if they thought I was some rude person because someone obviously needs to teach that person some manners.

that is kind of the point of the conveyor belt and the bar separators.  it is so the line moves more quickly and people are able to get in and out more quickly.  not sure what the big deal is with this.  what i hate is when they crowd you at the credit card swiper now that is annoying.  the other day i had to ask a guy to please back up himself his cart and his three children so i could even get to the machine to pay for my items so rude.

I actually don't see the issue!  If I was behind you in line I would be an offender as well.  Happy Holidays!

I don't mind if your hands are full and you just want to sit them down, I do that sometimes. I mean when you are unloading your cart and the cashier is scanning the groceries  and the person behind you start to unload and don't use a divider. Their groceries almost begin to mix with yours and you have to tell the cashier to stop or that's not mine after they grab someone else's stuff. I just don't understand why people can't wait until the person in front of them finish their transaction before they start unloading all their groceries it is very irritating.
Given that the person behind didn't bother with using the dividing bar (or in a few cases where there was no dividing bar), yes I too would get upset.... If the bar was available but the person just didn't bother to use it, I'd separate our groceries with the bar myself and would probably comment on how rude it is to not use that bar. If the bar was not available, I'd chide the person behind me for crowding our groceries together, the cashier for not having a bar at their station, and might even go to customer service or if identifiable the checkout manager and mention that they didn't have something so trivial available at every checkout station. And if this is a common occurrence at a particular store, perhaps even write a letter to the store manager / director telling them that their incompetence with such a common curtsey makes me wonder about the rest of their store, and that I therefore refuse to shop there anymore; if this is a chain, I'd also cc it to someone in the corporate office.

As long as they're using the separator it's fine with me. It's convenient in many ways to utilize that time to unload and sort your groceries for the cashier.

If I do go to the regular cashier I always put up the the bar after my stuff is all out of my cart ... I don't mind if the person behind me starts to put their stuff up.  Usually, I go to the self check out as I don't always have a lot of groceries and like to bag myself.

Not everyone but people in general are a bit on the rude side these days.  They're in such a hurry to do everything that they don't care who they push out of the way.  It is very rude indeed.

I don't care if they put their stuff on the belt, but I really get irritated when they crowd you as your are trying to pay.   Give me space there.
