When you are checking out at the grocery store, why do people start unloading their stuff before you finish yours and your transaction. So  irritating!!!!

folks are really wrapped up tight with what they've gotta get done that they not too aware of what's going on around them

I don't see what the issue is, as long as they use that bar thingy to separate their items from yours. I do this all the time. Either I have just a few items that I'm holding in my hands and want to set them down before I accidentally drop them, or I've got my cart filled and want to speed up the check-out process by getting them on the conveyor belt. I guess I could see if there wasn't that separator bar or not enough space to put the items on the counter / belt. And in those few cases, I'll patiently wait. But that is pretty rare when I feel that unloading my own items will inconvenience the person ahead of me...

I see no reason why this should bother you at all. 

Can you explain why this should be a problem?

I was going to say why would it bother you, but I read it again, do you mean that while your unloading your cart, they are too? In that case yes Id be a bit miffed too.

I wait till they are going through checkout and scanning their items before I start putting my stuff on the conveyor

I think I would unload my stuff too as long as your stuff wan on the belt and there was room.

I'm not trying to inconvenience the person behind me by making them to wait to unload their cart until all my items have been scanned, bagged, paid for and I've left and I hope the person in front of me wouldn't do that to me.

I start unloading my cart at the end of the checkout an will continue until all of my groceries are unload and then will wait a couple of minutes the will put the bar between me and another customer. I don't mind them loading just as long as they are not crowding me.  And I will not crowd the person in front of me. I wait until there is at least a foot or 2 before putting my groceries on.  Once in a while though I will have a customer that just flat starts shoving and then I draw the line and will not budge from my spot for a while.  They just have to wait to unload.

That is what the bar on the conveyor belt is for - to divide the two orders so that the cashier can begin on that one as soon as she finishes yours, to save time.  Unless the person is putting their items in with yours, I don't see the problem.

I'm not sure what the problem is either. As long as you use the divider bar, which is why it's there so you can unload when there's room on the belt, it shouldn't be a big deal. I think it would be time consuming to wait for the person to completely unload and check out before unloading your own items.

I think they don't want to irritate the next person who lines up behind them...trying to be as fast as possible for them.

I don't mind if your hands are full and you just want to sit them down, I do that sometimes. I mean when you are unloading your cart and the cashier is scanning the groceries  and the person behind you start to unload and don't use a divider. Their groceries almost begin to mix with yours and you have to tell the cashier to stop or that's not mine after they grab someone else's stuff. I just don't understand why people can't wait until the person in front of them finish their transaction before they start unloading all their groceries it is very irritating.

To save time. Nothing wrong with it, they keep dividers there for a reason. Sounds a little selfish if you expect people to wait until you are completely finished.

I do not let the small things bother me in a grocery store.  Everyone want to be in and out  of a grocery store as quickly as possible.
