The superstitious thing about it is if you dont...or do make one something good...or bad will happen.

Sorta like..step on a crack...break your mothers back...

I was gonna make my NYR but first i need to check Mars is in its right rotation with Saturn!!

I have never heard that it was a superstition. It's just a traditional practice to affirm some kind of change in your life for the new year.

Not at all. There's no belief that something good or bad will happen if you meet or don't meet a resolution. A New's Years Resolution is simply a goal that you set for yourself for the new year.

Hawkeye...do a little more research please....

In Greece many people smash a pomegranate right after midnight outside their front door.  Why make this mess? Well they believe that the seeds will bring prosperity and good fortune. They also put a coin in a cake such as Vasilopita. The cake is cut at midnight and whoever gets the coin is said to have good luck in the New Year. The Greek often adorn tables with symbols of happiness and wealth including nuts, honey, fresh fruit and olive branches. Dating back to the 6th century BC, some hang a squill (or regular) onion on their front door to ward off bad spirits.

None of those things would be considered new year's resolutions. There are various new year's traditions that are superstitious, but setting a new years resolution is not. They are not the same thing.

Then you really have no point. Setting a new year's resolution is simply one of many new year's traditions. It doesn't have to be new years to set a resolution. People set them all the time during the year and have various times to accomplish them.

And nothing about setting a resolution is superstitious, no matter when you do it.

Resolution- a. A firm decision to do something: b. A course of action determined or decided on:
e.g. made a resolution to get more exercise; his resolution is to get up early.
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/resolutions

It's clear that resolutions and superstitions are two different things. If you really want to reach and claim that in your example people setting "resolutions" for superstitious reasons, fine, but in no way does that make resolutions superstitious. That's just rather silly logic. Using that same logic, anyone who doesn't cut their facial hair is doing it because of a superstition. Your argument is based on a false premise.
