Anybody in a Potty Training stage right now???
« on: July 29, 2009, 12:43:56 pm »
I'm trying to potty train my 2 year old before the new baby comes, but he's being so stubborn.  He shows so many signs, like telling me he already "go poo" as he says.  Or if he's just uncomfortable in his diaper he tends to bring one to me, but he'll sit on the potty forever and nothing!  Then as soon as he gets up, he pees on the floor and laughs!!  Anyone else trying or has trained a boy?  Any tips to help me out??  I grew up with all girls!!  This is so different for me!!

I'm looking forward to reading the replies you get. I'd like advice also! I have an 18-month-old daughter and don't know if it's too early to try to potty train her? She fidgets and pulls at her diaper when it's dirty -- so she's aware when she needs a diaper change. But I don't know if that necessarily means she's ready to be potty trained. Best of luck moms!

I actually only have a 7 month old, but as far as potty training tips for boys... I heard placing cheerios in the toilet for them to aim at works most of the time.

The little boy I used to nanny got rewarded a jelly bean everytime he went poo or pee on the potty... that seem to work from him.

I've heard the cheerios thing, but he isn't quite to the standing point.  We need to get him aware of the fact he needs to go in the potty in general.  It's a stressful job here ya know LOL

I am currently trying to potty train my 2 year old daughter.  I have found that if you put them on the potty about every hour to hour and a half, it helps them get used to going and gets them used to the feeling of going potty.

I'm in the same boat.  My daughter is 19 months old and she takes her diaper off too.  I let her sit and sit on the potty.  She just sits there for a while, laughing, and playing.  She gets up (after doing absolutely nothing in the potty) and wants to flush the toilet.  As soon as I put another diaper on her, 5 minutes later its wet!!!!  I think it may be a little early to train her.  My other 2 children were at least 2 years old when I started with them, but children are different.  I'll keep trying and just be patient with her.

Boys are pretty easy to do. What we did with my boy was buy alot of fruit jiuces, fruit snacks and other healthy snacks. Also took him to Target and let him pick out his own underwear.
Waited till the weekend and right after breakfast changed his last diaper and gave him a stack and told him to put them in the garbage. Told him he was a big boy and didn't need them.
Showed him the snacks and told him he could have one every time he went to the bathroom in the toilet. We even fixed his bathroom all up for him in Spiderman stuff.
After he through the diapers away we told him to go pee and he went in there and went. We had to keep telling him through out the day til he learned to just go. Took the whole weekend but he got the hang of it.
We still used diapers at night for a few days until we were sure he was good. He did have an accident a few times after that.

The snacks were a good reward and really enjoyed it.

My little girl was another story....what a nightmare, it took more than a weekend for her. She would wait til the last minute to go and would always end up going right in fron tof the toilet.

what i did with mine was basically in the morning directly on the potty check him every once and a while make sure he didnt go. Ask him if he has to go. Even if he says no put him on the potty roughly every half hour and when you get him to go on it finally make sure you hype it up. make him feel really good about himself for doing it. It will make him want to keep doing it. Make sure to tell him what he did correctly :). I.E. "You went poo on the potty!!!! good job!!!!" After he does go you can safely wait a few hours. (2 -3 most) Good luck!

Oh my I am so not looking forward to potty training.  My twins who are 11 year old girls now were such a mightmare to potty train I swear I never thought they would stop having accidents.  So now I have an 18 month old and he is already showing signs that potty training is just around the corner for him.  He tells me he wants changed he stops and hides under his high chair when he poops and when he pees he stops and makes this sound that says oh I am about to pee.  However he is unable to get his clothes on and off so I do not see how we could potty train until he masters this challenge.  Hopefully boy's are easier than girls.

That's Austin's favorite word too.  He still doesn't say Yes, but he uh-huh while shaking his whole body... but that's still rare for him to do!  LOL  Good luck with yours... I'm having such a rough time :(

This is super funny, but....my sister was so fed up with trying to train her son on the potty.  He is also 2 and he knew when it was time to go, because he would look at us and say, "Uh oh, pee pee", he absolutley refused to go into the bathroom at all.  This was around Easter and my sister had a plastic egg in the shape of a bunny.  So she put on this really funny voice and said, "Sean! I'm the potty bunny!" And he would say "Hi", the "potty bunny" then would say, "I need to talk to you in the bathroom." So they would walk to the bathroom, and the "potty bunny" would only talk to him when he is on the toilet.  Then the potty bunny would open up and give him a nice treat if he did something in the potty.  It was soo creative, and it worked!
