I know that it is legal for teenagers (and kids for that matter) to drink if the alcohol is provided by their parents and they do so under their parents' supervision.  It's not the case that they can just do so wherever they want as long as they have their permission.  The reason for that stipulation is for people that have wine with dinner and for people who use alcohols for religion, etc.

I think that is the dumbest thing ive  ever heard. Any parent who would give there kids permision to destroy there liver, act uncontrolably incoherent and not be able to think properly should have there children removed and there head examined. I dont usually judge, i say to each there own but when u are blaintly hurting your child then i hink someone should say something. :dontknow:

I don't agree with that one bit.  The legal age limit is 21, therefore, as parents, we should be teaching them to follow the law!!  We shouldn't be saying, "Sure, as long as I say it's Ok, we can ignore the Law!"  Maybe that is the problem with our country today.  So many Young people are slipping away from values that we were raised with... Just my opinion, but this could explain it!   :angry7:

As long as they drink responsibly and in their parents supervision, I see no problem with it.

The loophole in the law was not intended for kids to go and get drunk.  It was meant as a way for families to be able to allow their children to consume certain alcohols for special events (like many religious events).  If this loophole didn't exist, it would be illegal for people to freely practice their religions.  And again, the law isn't that people can go and drink with their parents' permission, it's that the parents have to provide it and supervise its consumption.  The law is very specific about that.

if  the children are enough to understand the negativity of drinking and know how to take care of themselves. Truly parents can not control what their children do - prohibit them not to do this, apparently, they will do it anyway.

Only if they want to make a decision they'll regret for the rest of their lives.

I got married at the age of 17. I was legally able to drink beer or wine while with my husband. My oldest daughter is 19 years old and lives on her own now. When she came to visit I did allow her to share a glass of wine with me. She is a very responsible young woman and I see no harm in her having half a glass of wine with me.

no definitely not!! and I think there are some adults that shouldn't be allowed to drink either!! ask someone who was related to or friends with someone who was killed by a drunk driver what they think about this topic. I guarantee that I know what they would say!

I personally think that the age should be returned to 18, and that parents can reasonably instruct their children to be responsible with alcohol.  Not everyone is going to destroy their liver as soon as they are allowed to drink - there's a reason that alcoholism is a disease and not a habit or a hobby.  I witnessed a few deaths due to underage drinking when I was in college, and I have to agree that a lot of college students would drink more responsibly if the drinking age began at the beginning of their college life instead of the end.  I drank a lot when I first turned 21, but then I slowed down when I realized how expensive it can be and how little I liked hangovers  :sad1:  Now, high school teenagers is another story when it comes to alcohol, you're at least an adult at 18, but still I dont think it is a big issue if the parents only allow their teenagers to drink at home, in moderation, and with constant reminder of what can happen when you're irresponsible with alcohol.

I think we should keep in mind that the OP probably wasn't referring to anything like binge drinking or actually getting drunk off your *bleep*.

Depends on the age of the individual.  If they're 13-16, probably not.  They still can't fully comprehend what alcohol does in the long run.  At 17, perhaps..I think it depends on the maturity of the teenager.

At 18, they should be allowed to purchase and drink it without their parent's or anyone's permission.  The legal age being 21 doesn't stop people from drinking...just about any person still in high school will attest to that.  At 18, if you're mature enough to vote on who will lead this country, you're mature enough to have a Budweiser.  If you're mature enough to sign the document sending you overseas to be pawns of power hungry, ignorant politicians, you're old enough to have a Budweiser.  If you're old enough to buy cigarettes, you're old enough to have a Budweiser.
