Why do people celebrate Christmas?

I can't speak for anyone else, but I believe and that is why I celebrate.

I've found that a lot of people does thing haphazardly, at random without thought. Like not believing or just following everyone else and participating. To each his own but I believe not in the day but in the birth.

That has always been one of my biggest pet peeves ~ those who do not believe in Jesus Christ but make a big to-do over Christmas and Easter.  I celebrate Christmas as Jesus' birthday with the emphasis on Him.  Easter has more meaning to me than Christmas does.  If the Lord Jesus Christ hadn't offered Himself on the cross of Calvary as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins, Christmas would have no meaning nor would it have ever been celebrated as a holiday.

After Jesus death there was NEVER a celebration of 12/25 as his birthday....please read what Paul says 20 years after his death...

The point here the significance of Jesus death always being memorialized....NOT his birth.

And again,I'm saying it makes no difference how the Holiday got started.We KNOW Jesus was born.We KNOW He must have had a birthday.Knowing the actual day or if it was commanded in the Bible is irreverent.There is nothing wrong with setting aside a day to rejoice in God sending His Son into the world.

And Christmas has nothing to do with Babylon.Honestly,is this how you picture Christmas got started?

Christmas is a time for giving presents and being with family if you're fortunate. Others feel extreme loneliness during the Christmas season.

A lot of pressure is put upon all of us to do good things and show brotherly love at Christmastime. But it's not too fashionable or politically correct to say Merry  Christmas. Stores and schools encourage us to use the terminology Seasons Greetings or Happy Holidays to detract from God and Christ and to dare not to offend others. 

Christmas carols are being pushed by the wayside in place of secular Christmas songs. Santa and Saint Nick can mingle in on both sides. After all, Saint Nicholas was a real person who did good. Children are enamored of the man who brings gifts and parents play along. It's fun to do all that, but we really should consider making sure we keep the real reason front and center.

God knows which of us are his and are the ones who celebrate Jesus coming to Earth to save us from our sins. Lots of people just sort of mishmash everything together and stay too busy and miss the celebration of Christ's birth. Unbelievable amounts of money is spent on toys and other expensive gifts. 

It would be nice if we all could pick someone less fortunate than we are and make sure their Christmas is merry and bright. Then we would have that wonderful feeling that comes when we help others and become less selfish. What a lovely world that would be.

If I say anything and especially if someone says "happy holidays" I always say "MERRY CHRISTMAS".  I do not care about being politically correct.  I do realize that Jesus was not actually born on Dec 25th but it is when Christians celebrate the birth of Christ.

As for everyone doing something to make things better for a family that is less fortunate...
You do not know someone else's situation.  I know someone who is in a horrible situation but everyone "thinks" they have plenty of money.  When they say they don't have any money people think they are lying.  Idk.  I guess I am just saying people should not judge someone else by what they "think" they know.  Because in reality you do not truly know what someone else is going thru.

BUT...if He had not been born then he could not have died on the cross. 

And Christmas was started as a pagan holiday.  It had nothing to do with Jesus or His birth.  They just kind of meshed the two together.  It's the truth.  Look it up.

Sadly, in today's world Christ has very little to do with Christmas.  Just watch the news the weekend of Thanksgiving and see the people fighting, at times to the death, for some electronic or some outrageously cheap piece of crap they want to have for Christmas morning.

There is nothing wrong with celebrating the 25th as the birth of Christ.  You are correct.  But accepting that Dec 25th is NOT the actual birth of Jesus and that celebrating this date as His birth as a way to join that with the pagan holiday that Christmas started out as answers the original question as to "why do you celebrate Christmas if you do not believe in Jesus".  Because originally Christmas had nothing to do with Jesus.

That's simply not true.Yet again referring to my humorous "Make room for daddy" episode,Christians did not celebrate a pagan feast under a different name.I don't know why that's so tough to take.It was set up by the church to supplant pagan festivities,not become a part of them,and they certainly didn't start as one of them.

It was a smart move by the church for evangelizing.They stuck Jesus birthday celebration smack in the middle of pagan feasts and said "Hey,you guys are celebrating the wrong occasion.Jesus is where it's at.Come over here and check us out."

It seems to me,I remember making this case to Falcon9 years ago.I hope he didn't rub off on you guys.

If you were born in a stable out in the middle east,with no way to tell what your birth date was,would you tell your family to pick a date for you?Or would you just go without celebrating your birthday with your loved ones for the rest of your life?

Have you noticed each year we know when Nisan 14 falls on?The date of Jesus death cos Jesus wanted us to KNOW that!!

Well,this is my 30th post this month!(Yea!I made it! ) I don't know what to tell ya hitch.I hope you come out from under the yoke of the Watchtower's teachings. It's admirable to have a zeal for the Lord,but make sure the God you serve is the God of the Bible and not a product of the Watchtower's creation.
