I have had to handle some . they just don't think a women is worth their time. Well guess what if you had a problem that needed to be solved you were going to have to talk with me. Even if I called my boss he would tell them I solved the problems not him. I had a Chinese man that raising heck all over the store, so they sent him to me and I tell you he was so mad that he was spitting and one of my other customers was getting ready to take him down and security was on the way when I told him no uncertain way would I put up with his crap and leaned over and told him to get *****out of the store. He did but he kept calling to complain on me and the store  secretary kept putting him off seeing the boss until he gave up. Oh well such as life.

If you worked on a job where you deal with the public and you had a customer who was middle eastern and you were talking to them and they pretty much ignored you (and he can speak English because he was talking to others who were with him, in English) and a guy who was with him (coincidentally a white guy) finally tells the cashier "He does not like Americans, He is not going to talk to you".

Just curious what people think about this.  My take is "if you don't like Americans or America then WHY are you here?"  I have heard a lot of stories where people move here from other countries and they make it quite plain they hate Americans.  A lot of middle eastern or India who own businesses have made very outspoken statements that they hate America.

I don't care where any one is from.  I just don't understand why if you hate a country - why would you move to that country.  For example - I would not move to Canada and then be angry every where I went and make in plain I hated Canadians.  That would be stupid.   ::) ::)

I would probably ask the guy why he was in America if he hated Americans!

I would point him to the nearest airport and wish him a happy flight back home.

I feel for you - that is so rude! I too cannot understand why someone would move to the US (when clearly they are not from this country) to make full use of the freedoms and facilities only to fester in themselves that they do not like the actual country that is providing for them. That is ungrateful. Also, my mum and dad taught me to be respectful to everyone no matter who they are or where they were from. So what would I do in your situation? I would move onto a customer who valued my help and expertise!

I fail to understand why Americans are expected to change their ways for foreigners.  If they don't like Americans and don't like it here then they need to go back to where they came from.

I would then proceed to help the person that spoke to me.  Taking for granted that he would be playing the position of the middle man.  I would still do my best to help but I would try to hurry it up.  Then I would blow the whole situation off.  I don't know the rude man and therefore I don't care what or who he likes.  Rise above and keep going.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who hate Americans that are living the American dream in our country.  They are the ones that are helping to turn our country into a more radically split ethnic groups with their vengeance set against true Americans.
Have a wonderful day!

I now work in retail part time (again) and I've been blessed to not run into anything like this (so far).  With it being a place of business and my job is to serve the customer I would do no more than that.  Rude people come in all colors shapes and sizes.  In that line of work you just gotta let what's said or rather not said go in one ear and out the other.

This is true.  Usually the first ones to scream racist are the most racist of anyone I know.  I work with a guy like that.  He calls me and others I work with a "bigot" ALL the time.  I actually am considering going to HR if he doesn't stop.  That is as offensive as calling him a racial name which no one has ever done.  If anyone disagrees with him on any subject he starts yelling they are a bigot.  Then when people don't talk to him because of this he says they won't talk to him because they are a bigot.  Smh.

I know.  But I have a hard time with that.  And now pretty much all retail except Walmart or the like the cashier has to ask the customer for their phone number.  People tend to smart off about that.  I personally don't care.  Make it up.  Whatever.  But what is the point in cursing ME.  It is store policy not MY personally wanting your phone number.  Geez.  I try to remember that when I shop at the mall because most of those places ask for a phone number.  If you don't want to give one then just make something up.  Don't take it out on the cashier just doing her or his job.  The same with asking for donations.

Several years ago I worked at Dollar General and we during the holidays had to ask for donations for I swear 3 different organizations.  But when I first started it was only one.  The store managers wife came thru my line.  I did not ask her if she wanted to donate her change to the "people who cannot read fund" and she told on my (to her husband, my boss) and got me in trouble.  The jar is sitting there.  Just put your change in if you want to.  There is no way to win.  Some people just want to try to make others miserable.  I have a co-worker who was almost in tears the rest of the day after some jack wagon said some really rude things to her.  I told her not to worry about him.  He was an idiot and not worth her being upset the rest of the day.

I had a co-worker who a man was telling her how stupid she was and trying to tell her how to do her job.  She said she took like 10 minutes to ring him up.  She kept purposely messing up and having to start over and going really slow and acted like she was a dumb as he treated her like she was.  Hilarious. :D

Well, there could be several reason why such a person is in America:
- they could be sent to America to work at their country's embassy, a few years of required service before they can go back home
- they work for a company who is contracted to do an implementation in America and are required to reside here during the implementation phase
- they are visiting relatives who do live here (not permanent residents)
- they are going to school (university) due to some work/personal need, and plan to return to their country once they graduate
- they work for a global company and are assigned to work in the America's region

There are probably numerous other reasons why someone who "hates America" may be here.

In a situation like the above, one thing to understand is middle eastern culture is highly patriarchal.  I know the OP is female (as am I), so part of the reason this gentleman didn't speak could have been due to you being American, but I would wager a larger one was that you were an American woman.  If he's traditional, American women are highly offensive to them - due to us working (which is man's domain) and not being covered as traditional middle eastern women are.  If I assumed this was the case, I would address the American man with the gentleman and ask if I should either get a co-worker who was male or the manager to assist the gentleman, or see if the American man will act as a go-between to assist the middle eastern gentleman.
This is America there is no go between to please this man. Either he learn American custom or go back where he came from. When in America do as American's do. After all this is America and not his country from which this man choose to hold his beliefs. No American should have to oblige this man when he chose to be here.
