Precious pets!
« on: October 18, 2014, 11:29:39 am »
We just found out Thursday that our 14 year old dog has a large tumor near his rectum that is causing him some real problems!  He can't walk very well and is not eating good.  The vet biopsyed it but we haven't gotten the results yet;  just hoping and praying it isn't cancer!  We love this little fellow and he has been a very important part of our family since the day our youngest daughter picked him out at the pound.  We've always felt that if you have a pet, you should take good care of them but this tumor slipped by us.

Please don't blame yourself.  I am a huge animal lover but I have lost pets due to cancer, liver failure, etc.  trust me my pets sneeze three times they are at the vet ( not really but close).  I actually have my vet's home and cell numbers, but things have happened when I lost them because I wasn't 100% on top of everything.  It's almost impossible to know when a tumor is growing in a pet, you have done nothing wrong.  Hopefully things will turn out ok for your boy.  Even if it is a tumor it doesn't mean it's cancer.  Keep us updated and best of luck!

I understand how you feel.  I lost my oldest cat, Saki, on July 29th.  I'm quite sure now that it was cancer but, at the time, no one really knew.  She had lost weight and wasn't doing too well in the bathroom department.  I'd been visting the vet on and off for almost 8 months.  All blood work came back OK so we just thought it was something like colitis.  I did all I could possibly do for her and in the end, I had to euthanize her.  It broke my heart.  Saki now sits in her Kitty Cat Urn on my desk with a silver Egyptian cartouche around her neck spelling out her name in Hieroglyphics.  At least I know she's not suffering any more, and having her cremains makes me happy.

It is really hard when your pet(s) get ill especially if they are older.  We have not children so our "pets" have been and are our "children".  Some will likely think that is ridiculous but that is the way it is for us.  We've watched two of our beloved dogs live to very good ages and we had to make the decision in both cases when to have them put to sleep.  It was very difficult but there is a point when their inability to deal with or recover gracefully from treatments makes this, in my opinion, a humane option.

Our pets can become as important to us as other family members.  We have had our Tommy for 13 years now.  His age is starting to show on him and it is very hard for us to realize that his days with us are growing short.
Have a wonderful day!

My dog had a tumor and unless it shows up on an x-ray, you won't know. Don't be hard on yourself.

I lost my dog a couple of years ago and I know that I did everything I could...and then some.

I'll pray for your baby.  :dog:
