We always go out to my brothers, they have a big house and a large family, where it is just hubby and I now. I always cook and bake food to take out. We enjoy it. The kids clean up and then we come home and stretch out. always a very nice day.

My family is big on cooking as well so we don't go out for dinner instead we all cook together or bring different platters.

We have holiday dinners with family in each others' homes.  Once we attended a Thanksgiving dinner at our community banquet center.  It wasn't really for me.

My families aren't real close geographically so the last couple of years we have gone to a banquet hall in our local area. We take a friend of my younger son and the two of us and have a nice meal. We see lots of people we know there.

It's not that expensive and there's no clean up.  8) I used to love doing Thanksgiving  :turkey: when we were closer to one another but it's more difficult now. So this has been working just fine for us. I'm happy that so many of you value Thanksgiving dinner with the family.  :turkey: It's a wonderful time to get together.

We have a lt of really good cooks, so we have both of those meals at someone in the familys home.  Every body brings sides dishes and we just hang out all together for the day.  We have the first meal at about 1 PM then any of the family that hasmore than one family to go to can head out early.  We play board games and just talk and visit with no rushing.  Always a great day.       m

We never go out to dinner on holidays. I love spending it at home or with family. We all bring something to add to the meal and play games and talk afterwards.

Well the "family" consists of my Dad and I these days.  Many years I have had to work half a day on Thanksgiving  (I work in the office) as they want a 3 day weekend here in the South so it is the "traditional" manufacturing way.  So one of the local hotels does an incredible buffet and that is what we do!

We make dinner for Thanksgiving and for Christmas.

Thanksgiving is the "traditional" meal of turkey, mashed potatoes, veggies, and dessert....usually pumpkin of some kind.

Christmas -- we like soups in the crockpot so we can attend church, open gifts, and share time together playing games rather than spending a lot of time cooking.

What rock have you been hiding under?  It has been many years since Walmart closed on Thanksgiving and I don't know of any grocery stores that close on Thanksgiving.  And every fast food place and restaurant are open.  As far as Christmas day yeah most places are closed (use to all of them were) but now all the gas stations are open, Walgreens is open, and it won't be long til Walmart will be open too.  Then people can take all their presents back Christmas day instead of the 26th.

I have never gone out for Thanksgiving or Christmas! But my husband when growing up, only went out for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I couldnt believe it when I learned that. Ever since our first holidays together he never even wants to go out any more :) just something about a home cooked meal I guess  ;D
