I guess it depends on the situation. I know someone that is legally a sex offender because of a minor that showed up at his house while he was drunk and she seduced him because she had a crush on him for a long time. He wasn't able to do anything about the situation because of the alcohol. I guess if it were another situation like that, it would be a bit different than if something was done intentionally.

Why are they a sex offender?

You could end up being a registered sex offender for having consensual sex with someone a couple years younger than you. Public urination will get you on the list in some states. That is much difference than those on the list for rape or any crimes against children

Sex offender is a very broad term. It would help to know exactly what the person was convicted of doing. In general, I don't date felons regardless of the conviction.

You know, people are gonna do what people are gonna do! I would never knowingly date a sex offender. In fact, if I knew a close friend of mine was dating a sex offender, I would have to say something out of respect to our friendship. I wouldn't be offensive or finger pointing, but I would suggest that it might not be healthy and to be vigilant with regard to their future. I wouldn't stop being their friend, but as any good friend, I would have say how I really feel.

Took the words out of my mouth, it depends on the reason why that person is a sex offender, my friend has a daughter that is dating a guy that is on the list because his girlfriend was 16 he was 18, in Florida, and he was labeled as a sex offender for having had consensual sex with his girlfriend, the girls parents did not like that they were having sex and report it, so here he is label for life as a sex offender for doing what every teenager does.  So to answer your question, it depends on the reason why that  labeled a "sex offender".

Personally I could not bring myself to be in a relationship with anyone who is a sex offender.  However there are those cases that are unfair.  For instance a A 16 (almost 17) year old who is dating an 18 year old.  Some parents just can't wait for those kids to turn 18 to file against the older consenting participant.  I thank God I found my soul-mate and wouldn't have to be in this situation.  Now I pray my kids never have to be involved in such a hard place.

First, you have to define sex offender.  I may be wrong, but some people are put on the list for stuff like public urination or like an 18 year old dating a 17 year old or stuff like that, things that aren't so blatantly offensive.

If it was something minor like that, I might be okay with it assuming it was a one time thing.  But otherwise, no.
