I've never heard of it, but it doesn't surprise me because the makers of the new car seats need to sell more...

You may not have heard about it since this would most likely be a state law (as are all other traffic offenses). Our state had started running ads about checking car seats and ensuring that they are not expired, but as of yet no law requiring this. However I wouldn't be surprised that it will become a new law in our state in the near future...

Is it that the car seat has expired or that the child has reached a certain height and weight and has to be moved to another car seat that is safe for that child?  Has the car seat not passed safety standards?  I don't quite get it.  I've not been a mother that needs a child seat for years!!!!!

???how and why would a car seat expire beyond being in an accident or the child outgrowing the seat.  I guess the seat could be used for too many children other than that what????

I just heard something about these new laws on our local news.  Car seat laws are changing for the child's safety, and, of course, that is what's paramount.  It seems that a younger child's head makes up a larger percentage of their body weight and studies have proven they are safer facing the back in a particular position.

I suspect it has to do with federal regulations and not with the car seat manufacturers.

I didn't know anything about car seat expiration dates until I tried to sell one on a FB app.  A girl sent me a message saying it looked like an expired one.  She told me where to find the date and sure enough when I checked it was expired.  I thanked her for the info and took the post off.
