Did you ever get a 'switching' as a kid?

No my parents never hit me with a switch from a tree.  I was spanked by my mother only never my father.  Sometimes she used a belt.

I don't remember ever having that happen, but certainly got the belt. Or the hand. Or the really hard soled though flexible shoe that worked a lot like a paddle. Pretty much anything could be used as a switch when I was growing up. Some parents have a designated item that's used for this purpose, but for me growing up it could have been anything.

I got the belt a few times, but not very often. I deserved those and don't feel abused. I don't know if I could do that when I have kids, though.

lol.  So we can agree to disagree.  I have no problem with spanking kids.  That's just how it is.  And I would not work in a day care because I would not put up with the bratty behavior that you have to deal with from kids who are never spanked or made to mind.  Sitting in a chair in time out for 3 minutes is not punishment nor does it deter bad behavior.  And we are not talking about someone else's kid like it is a random kid she does not know.  It is her grand daughter.  Most grand parents are allowed to make the grand kids mind.  And if they are not then they usually don't keep them.  Back in the day when kids got spanked for doing wrong and were paddled in school for doing wrong things were a lot better.  Kids did not turn into total monsters until they realized there was not real punishment.

Or, you could always let the person I actually asked the question to answer it, instead of just assuming you know the answer.

OR you could just let it go, but you can't.  I am not stopping the other person from responding.  You keep trying to make me agree with you and it is not going to happen.

Oh yeah.  The part I hated was I had to get my own switch.  If the switch was too small, I had to practically bring a whole tree.  I tried to not get in trouble because a green switch hurts like hell.

my mother would whip us with what ever was handy lol, and we deserved it everytime.  my dad on the other hand was not a whipper, and thats the practice i use.  my brother is also a whipper and his kids turned out no better than mine.  i guess it is a parents choice

Oh my, this is quite a delicate subject! I'm not awfully sure what switching is, but I did get swiped by my mum for various things, I don't remember what. We knew when she went into the kitchen and swung the cutlery drawer open that we were in for a swipe of the wooden spoon.  To lighten the mood a little, I remember one of my sons misbehaving in the car which I felt was deserving of a clip round the ear! Except that as I lunged towards him, my seatbelt locked and I couldn't reach him! You can imagine how frustrating that was for me but my husband thought it was hilarious.

Yes, Yes I did and we all are so much better for it.  Some Kids are so hard headed it takes more than "TIME OUT" to get them to listen.
