I didn't like being the center of attention so I was fine getting up and talking as long as there were other people up there. I went to magnet schools for middle and high school and we did so many presentations that I just don't care. I'll get up and talk in front of anyone at this point

I was usually fine when presenting in front of people. This actually surprised some other students and teachers because normally I'm just so quiet. But I think that's part of the misconception of an introvert... The reason why I'm usually quiet is that I tend to over-think about what I want to say, and usually only vocalize something if it's meaningful to me. However people tend to think of introverts as being shy or scared to speak. Even though outward appearances (eg the person doesn't tend to speak a lot) may be the same, there is a difference between a true introvert and someone that suffers from a social anxiety. With public speaking, however, there is usually some topic to speak on and having done the preparations for it, I know what I want to say, so I don't really have to think about what to say. That's also why I don't need "liquid courage" when singing karaoke; I pick songs that I know the lyrics to and think I perform well, so very rarely am I scared when singing in front of a bar full of strangers.

Oh my goodness! I was so terribly shy at school. I absolutely hated standing up in class and saying something, I even hated raising my hand to answer a question. I didn't like that everybody was looking at me. I remember my mum saying not to worry, when you get older your confidence will come. This was surely true. Not only did I end up working in a bank for 10 years serving customers but I subsequently became a Recruitment Consultant in which I was holding interviews all day! Now, at 46, I have a problem holding my tongue if I think something is out of order.

Speaking in front of a crowd is the #1 phobia.
Fortunately, the more you do it, the more you get over it.

Nowdays, this is being taught in schools at a young age, so by the time students get to college they will be over the anxiety.  I had a teaching class that everyone had to give a report every class period, by the end of the semester, everyone was so over "public" speaking anxiety.  Colleges now focus on group projects & verbal presentations in front of the class, because that is what is necessary to compete in the global economy.

Oh yes !! I remember those days. When I was doing my masters in science, I had to do a presentation in front of the whole class. It wasn't easy at all. I had to do it because it was mandated. I was very nervous.

I have always hated to get up and talk to people, but I had to do this at my job so it got easier.  Now sometimes I have to sing solos at church and I am always nervous doing this.

I couldn't stand it when I was in school. I was always one that would rather be behind the scenes. Now, I am much more comfortable talking in front of a group of people, although it's still a work in progress. I find it gets easier the more I do it.

When I was at school I never talk out loud, or presented anything. I was too scared too.
